I gave this empathy idea a try, and I see it's pretty interesting to try to communicate with images instead of words. Also, it may lead to some interesting puzzles or even conflicts. Every Homin is attuned to Atys in his own unique way. Someone can only project vague images into other's mind, someone can only project feelings (You're suddenly overwhelmed by a sense of danger), someone - smells or taste, and so on. Someone's images get sharper as he gets more tied to the person he's communicating with, someone's images are equally vague to anyone - it can be a long list of possibilities.

And think of all the misunderstanding that can rise from. Ever played a game when someone guesses a word, another player has to explain it without words, and a team of 2-10 players try to guess what's being shown? It can get pretty interesting on a scale of an MMO!

I'm opening this thread, for sharing plot hooks for Ryzom roleplaying. Even if you don't like an idea that comes to your head, there's still a point in posting it here. Maybe someone else picks up on it and plays along these lines. It's not necessary for the idea to be related to your character, and offering an idea related to a specific char's ok.

I'll start with a simple one. Everyone knows of Wheri's accent. Later in the (our) plotline, he may come to a point where it starts hampering him. Will someone try to help him get rid of it, or will he be forced to do it himself? Or maybe just live with it? Well, thats simple, but I'm considering it for further roleplay. And hey, maybe there's someone who doesn't like him because of the accent, someone who's important to him (No, I'm not thinking of Wheri falling in love. He's too young as a character for that).

I didn't play a lot of MMOG's and what I did, had very limited RP potential. Most of them were the aforementioned "Asia grind" like RO, LA2 or less-known FlyFF or Xiah. I can point out what traits the game must have to encourage RP, and what it must not have, but I'm afraid we can't find a 100% RP-oriented game right now.

However, Seed was a very successful experiment. It proved that a roleplay- and plot-driven MMOG is possible, can attract a player base and keep it. Hopefully, we shall see some projects rise soon enough, with the worst of the downsides of Seed (99% technical) addressed, with best parts of it made even better.

I should add, that in most games, there is a small roleplaying community, and every gaming session has a chance to attract newbies, if there are enough players (Both roleplaying in the session and casuals) around. We can expect new members to join our fine community in Ryzom. At least the community's mature enough. Mature enough to not spawn lolboiz.

But please, please, RID ME OF PRINA! T_T

Simply download it from http://www.ryzom.com. I could burn it on a DVD if you were somewhere near Moscow, but you'd still have to download 250 megs of patches. And I'm sure you're far from Moscow smile

I'd tell we do need an OOC/metagame channel. There are times you just have to ask "I need a fine Quality 40 counterweight with good sap storage, anyone got these?" or "How do I return the 'use item enchantment' action to my panel?" or the like. Searching forums or the IRC takes time and requires alt-tabbing, which is a pain for those who play in fullscreen. And when you roleplay, you have to have some coordination on what you play.

So I'd say, roleplay only in the "around" channel, and "whisper" if it's actual whispering, and keep guild and party channels for metagaming (Keeping them off most of the time).

Finding an in-game explanation for them is good too, but only if the explanation is logical and realistic enough.

Wheri, the Tryker crafter. Another positive fellow with quite an accent.
