Frakel is playing quite some I hear. Kardaron too, in another corp, and I have no internet at home for at least a week yet, so..
I also think Esme could be convinced to play now and then. That's it, more or less

I'll be there at 14.00 and I have to go at 19.00 in order for busses to and from work to fit.
Hrm ok, I can shift my plans, so saturday is ok.
There is something keeping me from thinking URU Online is the greatest thing to happen to RP since Seed, and that's probably the lack of influence players have on the official story. It is more akin to reading a book than participating, which is such a shame, as URU could be such a compelling game if player actions mattered and we weren't only spectators. Anyway, of course that's the same in every MMO out there right now, and players can create their own stories. Still, if URU got this element in, I'd give it a second try.
THat's fine, especially considering that we are RP'ers here, and we'd like to be able to RP these chats. Of course that takes time.
If you want the game to have broader appeal, maybe include a timer function the players can agree on for turn length?
No that's ok Kardaron, best of luck to you I'll be online in EVE now and then, it's my only MMORPG after allt
.. I stand revealed!
Oh.. And we kinda' thought this was a weekly recurring thing, not just this sunday, hence the fuss. But maybe you only meant THIS sunday?
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday
After 7pm N/A After 7pm After 7pm N/A N/A Any
Why not try to reschedule your Earthdawn playing time Dustman? Sunday can't be the only day of the week possible, and I guess you have as much of a say in those matters as the rest of your gaming group?
Earthdawn? That old rules intensive game? Never got a chance to play it..
OMG, why won't this thread DIIIIEEE!!!????
I tried this PW, but was somewhat disappointed and put off by it, or more correctly the players my char met.
As everyone starts out shipwrecked on an unknown island, I RP'ed a confused character wanting to know what happened, which I figured was a good way to make new contacts. I met three people. The first was friendly and attentive until he had cheated my char out of some good loot she had taken from the boat (read: my poor char was cheated ), then all interest ceased and he left her standing to talk to his friends and ignored her. After a few minutes she wandered away and tried talking to a halfling, who answered in short sentences and proceeded to rudely run away from her after an area transition. The last person she met answered her questions in a curt, but uninterested way.
In short, it seemed like everyone was doing their thing, RP'ing with their own clique or wnadering around on their own. It wasn't a very inviting feeling, so my motivation to keep trying in lieu of me being busy with other stuff too wasn't too big.
Ah well, maybe I was just unlucky
I'm waiting for some resolution to this, and yes, I don't have time to lead in EVE right now, I hardly have time to log in and play actually.
It would be nice if our Seeds of Matar in the game got rejuvenated and got some new members. As a player I have nothing against a new CEO, with Marghulis retaining some fallback powers. How Marghulis feels about that is an IC thing of course, but it shouldn't be impossible
Dustman, tell Sandling he got this right, so we can get another picture?
And nice of you to post this when I wasn't around, excellent planning
"Roleplaying tends to vanish in worlds with an intense endgame, because there's just too may other ways to fill the time."
What nonsense. If you RP, you RP fully or not at all. Part-time RP'ing or semi-RP'ing is just.. Ughh.. If you feel the game is too important for you to "waste" time RP'ing, or if you feel the game hinders RP that much, you better not RP at all, as you might not really be grasping what it is about, or appreciating it enough.
"What draws a lot of people to roleplaying is the opportunity to be unique in a strange land, but no matter how many options you get at the outset, at the end of the day we all look the same."
Yes, which is why you shouldn't RP in MMOG's based solely on wanting to be different or achieving things. It just won't happen in most/all MMOG's. Being different and unique is a kinda' foolish notion though, RP'ing characters entails RP'ing realistic characters, and in the real world, many people are alike or share similarities. Being completely different is just artificial and usually makes other people who have to RP with you frustrated. The trick is to be interesting to others and to yourself. To have a few well-placed twists. But not to be completely unique or different. That's a bit.. hrm, childish imo.
Oh, and thinking that looks equals being different is not a very RP'ish view at all, though it's a player view of course. Not that it wouldn't be nice with distinct chars in regards to clothing, but what makes people different is their personalities, not their clothing.
As for the conclusion of this article, I understand why she feels so. I'd say RP'ing in MMO's is of course alive if there are RP'ers actively RP'ing, creating stories and engaging people. What she means if she had been more nuanced is that the spirit of RP'ing, or the things that make RP'ing possible/fun/immersive are sorely wounded in MMOG's, possibly dying or dead. I can agree with that to a large extent. MMOG's are not made for RP'ing, and so many things push in the opposite direction to satisfy mainstream gamers and to be able to make a big game. To do that, you have to automatize and can't focus on each individual player as a GM. When you lose that ability, you also lose most RP potential. However, tenacious players can have great RP under the most difficult circumstances, I've seen and also enjoyed that.
Still, the MMOG as a medium/tool for RP is not at all on par with tabletop or MUD's. Not at all. And that's sad/wrong/annoying. But very understandable when you think about the realities of players and money. Also note this doesn't mean you can't have deeper RP experiences in a MMOG than in a tabletop game. You certainly can, it's just that it is, all things equal, harder because the environment is less inviting with it.
It's no crime to play SWG. Really!
And I'm back.
Time to announce for anyone not on the IRC that I'll be gone on vacation for the next 10 days, so I won't be logging into EVE or playing. Just so you know and don't panic.
But hey, actually most of you don't log into EVE much anymore, so I guess that you won't notice
Yeah, happy birthday mr. SWG super-propagandist
Geez, of course you don't have to change it just because Sandling has his period today

Yes, there's a post that describes how to do that somewhere around this site. I've done it myself, and it's quite nostalgic moving the camera through the abandoned tower, heh.
The RP was the game yes, but apart from that, the gameplay mechanics had real potential, the celshaded graphics were awesome and the atmosphere in general superb.
You guys should be able to get a lot of Seed stuff and info from this site, including the client and data files of course. We're trying to get everything about Seed into Sekra's repository
I don't know if they would charge a lot of money for it really.
You can find the client and data files at Sekra's website, look in the Data Fragments section of this forum.
And I believe the main investor was Østjydsk Innovation: http://www.oei.dk/
Uh, yeah well. I'm sorry but I might be delayed in showing up tomorrow. Sorry
18 is too early for me, but I'm in for 19.
