What would we do when not RP'ing? Nothing of course Anyway yes, pro's and con's, surely.
And I wasn't serious about the sewers. Really. *thinks back fondly to EOB's hyper-realistic sewers*

I like this idea too. Especially if there are sewers with monsters to kill and loot from!? Ahm. Well, a city like this can feel, gritty and dark, yet still have social gathering places. There can be fights, and there can be a lot of intrigue and politicking too.
It would get my vote for now. Not that I dislike Vinland, but I'm just more of a city person. I also think the RP possibilities are bigger from the outset in such a setting.
I know Dying Earth a tiiiny bit too. I'd like to have the rules set of whatver we (if I get time to play) play myself, but that's no problem.
Anyway, I've played on the IRC both as a GM and player. It works well enough, especially for RP situations without rules naturally. However, there's no problem in letting the players throw a few dice and announce their result (or have the GM do it, if he doesn't trust them ) either. Also, there's infact some utilities and programs available made for chat-RP, complete with dice-systems, etc. I haven't checked those, but I remember someone mentioned them? Anyway, all settings and systems can be used without much of a bother really. So it's mostly a question of first what the GM is inspired to do, and secondly what the players have/know. With the first being most important.
If we RP as we do usually, IC, brackets for OOC, ** for emotes, then most can be handled. Actions can be told in private to the GM, who then decides on the outcome, with/without dice rolls where applicable. Private conversations/whispering is easy too - new channel for GM and the involved parties, etc. Only thing is, the GM need to do a lot of multitasking, and be good at descriptive writing. Speed in writing is a plus too
Anyway, I'm in when I think I have the time, and I do think it's a great idea.
Ah, time to resurrect this thread. It sorta' developed into why we will create our own guild, instead of discussing things about this guild. But now, 1.5 month after I posted this (I mean, HELLO!, &"%! slow RP'ers with all of their.. RP. ), it is high time to move on.
First off. The name. Perun is IC going to suggest Seeds of Atys. He has his IC reasons for the name. But we should agree here, or let our chars suggest other names IC with arguments.
Secondly, we need that banner thing designed (I point your attention to my first post in the thread).
Thirdly, I suddenly cannot get the option to create a guild from the Zoraï intendant anymore. This might be due to some technical change. Either the creator has to have a higher Zoraï standing, or you can now only create guilds in cycles (I seem to remember some logging on messages about that?). This might be a delaying problem.
Fourthly, calling it a guild sounds a little misleadingf. Others call their groups an Order or a House for example. Is there something we could use besides guild, or is that ok?
Fifthly. Let us create this 'guild'. ASAP if possible. There's a lot of RP'ing waiting to happen there, and we need to pull together now. 1.5 month of not pulling together is enough I think, we run the risk of losing people. Also, it is hard to recruit new people without this guild in place. Not to speak of all the extra fun RP we can do.
So, I'm suggesting we get together this saturday in Zora, all of us, and do this (if the game allows us to of course, but if not, we'll still have the chance to discuss the guild and the details IC). Now, we still lack Shula, Tinai and Paradoxis to come to Zora. Tinai we will hopefully move today. 'Hopefully'. Shula we can escort easily. Paradoxis we haven't seen for some time. We also need to somehow have Mercellus be a part of this talk.
So, how about standing ready this saturday, if at all possible? It could also be thursday, according to my schedule, if that's better. And then a huge party on saturday, with friends?
What Ahnion said.
I agree with people. Yes, I do. And mostly I agree with Kryigerof.
So, guidelines for how we RP. Yes. A description of who we are and what we do. Articles about RP. A section with info about the games we play (and in those, info about how we RP in them. I.e. more info about how we view the world, dying, communication, etc. THings that are specific to that game)).
Layout wise, I'm happy to leave that to other people. It should probably be pretty modular and clean though, which I know Ahnion can and will do (hah, there, pressure's on you).
As for the community. Yes, let us keep what we have, and keep that spirit. But as Kryigerof says, let us look forward, so that we will not just dwindle, but actually grow, and attract more people of a like mind and bent. Not in any crazy, expansionistic way, leaving behind what we have, no. But let's build it so that we are ready to slowly, steadily expand as we draw RP'ers from the games we participate in. And let us have a structure so that our website can handle the needs of giving info about these games and running guilds in them (I.e. when we make our own SoR guild, it should have a subforum and a section on the homepage, for example). All should fit in with the overall design and idea of course, and there should be room for expansion. Especially on the forum perhaps, and the graphical themes.
It is my fond wish to have a graphical theme for each game we play, so that RP'ers can select the one most relevant to them. That however, needs volunteers. That might or might not come to pass. But we should have the fundament in place for that. I also think we have, Ahnion?
Anyway, I want us to grow. But at a slow pace, so we can keep up and integrate people we meet. We need to preserve the feeling of being friends. An influx of 50 people at a time would be a little too much.
Oh, and then I think info (and/or a direct link to some webIRC thingie) about our IRC channels is very important. Because if we get people to join #seed, we get their souls! (insert evil, maniacal laughter going on for some time).
Yep.
Right, I wish to get this topic rolling, now that we have moved the forum to the new URL.
We were discussing a complete website with a forum. But the question is, what should such a website feature, and how should it be presented? Should it be presented as a place for roleplayers to gather online, or for ex-Seed players and friends? Should it be text-light, what should the graphical theme be? And so on.
How about you all post your ideas for such a website? The design will probably be modular, so the entire community can maintain it, but what there will be to maintain and how it will look, is the question. I'll start out with my own suggestions.
I think we should run this as a place where roleplayers gather to have fun/RP in different MMOGS. Layout should be simple and intuitive, no heavy gfx or anything. And as for content. Since we are a community, focused on online RP'ing, I thought to write several articles dealing with online RP. How to create a char, how to interact with others, how to create stories, etc. Basic stuff as such, guides to getting more fun out of RP'ing, and guides for non-RP'ers who want to RP. Because I do hope we'll attract and convert some of these too
And then, an official 'rule' set about how we RP as a whole when we are in the games. Well, of course we'd have to agree about that, and it's not as fascistic as it might sound of course, but a guideline for that would be good. And with that I mean, OOC in brackets, always IC on public channels, no LOLBOI language IC, 'simple' things like that. I'd like to write such a guideline, to put in a special place on the website.
So, comments, and other ideas, please
I have RP'ed over IRC previously. I've also played Nobilis as PBEM. Nobilis is very unique and metaphysical, it will take dedication and time to run properly.
I like the idea, but I will personally have enough to do with SoR and URU I think (and later NWN2).
If I was to play a IRC campaign, it would have to be something I could get into imediately and not think too much about when not playing right now.
You make everything look delicious Nuala
(( a note, stuck to the bath house in Pyr and the bar in Fairhaven reads the following: ))
This Holeth ((saturday)), some of us will arrive to Fairhaven with a trek of Dragonblades coming from Yrkanis. This trek will go back to Yrkanis again, so this is the chance we've been waiting for to finally meet up and get you all out of Fairhaven. We will set out from Yrkanis around the 10th hour of the the day ((22.00 GMT)). I don't know when the trek will get there, but am pretty sure it will eventually get there. There are good and skilled homins in the blades.
Please gather this Holeth, all of you who want to join up with the rest of us, so we can finally proceed to Zora together.
yours,
Perun
I'd say go for developing a world in NWN2. And take it easy. Although starting small, ambitions are probably high, us being who we are. So it'll take some time. Months, to build such a world. In that time, more people will probably upgrade to be able to play, and new custom content would be out.
I've played NWN a lot, both offline and online. I'd like to see something 'new'. But I'll play either way of course
Ah, always liked the Escapist, great they made that interview, though it's always sad getting reminded about Seed and what was not to be. Oh well
Well, I'll be a player, no builder or GM, so it is not up to me to decide.
However, two things.
If you go for something medieval, I've recently done _a lot_ of research into the timeperiod 1100-1280 AD, mindset, aristocracy, geography, history, eating habits, you name it. I'd be happy to play answering machine and referrer-of-links/books, should any builder need it.
Secondly, while I personally think there's a jewel behind any cliché, if you care to delve and create (i.e. I love what I have done with FR myself ), there are also other, somewhat quick alternatives to the ambitious path (creating a unique setting). There are a lot of fantasy setttings that could be imported into NWN2, if that would appeal to the Makers (TM) more than FR, and if creating a unique world proves to be too much.
Just saying of course, I'll happily play what you come up with. When I have a better computer
Ok, you're not exactl making it easy on my eyes
Yes, and we need not have a too artificlal name to keep us together in a neighbourhood. Let's wait and see, and come up with something fitting, or just move into a neighbourhood one of our char names due to various reasons.
OK, who came up with this strange idea?
Anyway, I think we should use Idlerpg for this, and then have teams, so we could recreate our rings I don't know what teams do in the code, but if they do nothing, apart from being there and displaying a team name (and listing what team is the best), then it should be fine?
Seems to me we might be doing something no others are doing. Seems to me we have struck gold. Seems to me we can completely ruin our RL if we want.
I love the idea of having one place on the web where online RP'ers can gather and go into games together. I'd also love the idea of a universal ruleset on IC/OOC (as long as it is possible), such as the one we use with brackets for OOC, * for emotes, and so on. Mhh, joy!
I'd be happy to join a neighbourhood with you others. Also, I always like the idea of building something from scratch with others, no matter what char I play, so yeah As for name or anything. Dunno, will read the lore, learn the language and play through the single-player games around 1 day before it launches probably, looking at how these things go
I know that one! Somewhat You gave me a link to this one once upon a time. It's on my computer at home though, so I can't check before wednesday. Maybe someone will beat me to it then
