edit: if you cant find their mail anywhere you could also post at the runestone forums (link at top of this site) .... but only do that as a last resort becuase its higly unlikely they visit that forum much

btw is this game supposed to be roleplayed?

i guess it was just called a wrench? But to be honest i cant remember heh..

But its a pretty neat idea actually, of couse the 'message' of such an icon would most likely only be understod by seed players.. smile

Hey

The IP, source code, art ect are owned by the investors of seed i believe. And from what we know they have no plans at all to release it as open source. Buying it from them you say? Maybe when we win the lotterty next time big_smile

The only thing if you really really want to experince the game is to get a hold of the client and a copy of the qube engine and load the data files. Someone here have done it, I havent tried it myself.

oh nice smile I can just imagine walking around there...with just a little bit of smoke coming up from that giant ventilator!

All of us really appriciate you taking the time to put this up hatetank!

pretty good ideas smile

Will copy it to our forum and see what the others think... Now that I think about it, it does have a lot of possibilities as you say.

Hm good point.

wheri how would you make it 2 player? 2 players on the same playing field with the simple goal of getting more points then the other?

Sure I am in smile

18 is a bit too early for me as well, but if that time is set I will try my best to be there anyway. Sounds like a pretty interesting concept!

Nothing quite beats a clock ticking down while you try to play a game imo smile

But thats an other pretty interesting suggestion, I will forward it as well! I guess its a question of how much focus we want to have on the chain creation vs making people stressed wink

Thanks for the idea! Do keep it coming!

87

(23 replies, posted in Games Discussion)

actually you can drag move a block. Simply click on a block and drag the mouse in either direction to move it multiple steps.

But thanks for pointing it out, shows that it isnt a feature that users figure out by themselves smile

The chain way of thinking would be more useful if you didn't punish for such success by increasing the difficulty level in direct relation to the score. After all, players usually aim at gaining maximum score during one game, and the speed at which they gain that score is secondary. That way, if you tie the difficulty level to, say, time instead of score, the player will be rewarded for making these chains and larger groups of blocks.

That is a very very good point actually!! I will suggest this to the rest of the team (and try my best to make them agree with this idea!)

We do have some 'special' blocks implemented right now, perhaps the spawing of these should be saved (or increased) untill later levels to provide the player with more reason to keep playing.

Thanks a lot for the feedback kryg! smile

Guess I might as well explain the game in some more details so you can give more feedback on it if you want smile

The version on the website right now only features only one play mode. The final version will feature at least 4.
Free play: the one that is in the game now
mission mode: complete different kinds of missions, ie, remove X amount of blocks in Y seconds, or create X amount of chains in Y seconds... these are just bad examples, but in our design doc I think there are details on more then 10 missions
Skin mode: Similar to free play. However once you reach a specific score the skin (background and the blocks) changes to a new skin which is then unlocked for use in free play
Chain limit mode: Create X number of chains in Y number of seconds

Except from mission mode these are actually already coded (have been for a while) and will be selecteable from the game menu in the next version that is put on the website. Hopefully this will help move the game away from the clickfest that you point out it very easily turns into

-----
Hm wait, upon re-reading your post kryg I am not sure you played it with the thought of 'chains' in your head? If you remove 4 blocks of one color, which then leads to an other group of 4 blocks being removed your made a chain which provides a lot higher score then simply connecting 4 blocks
I guess we should make this gameplay element more clear smile

(23 replies, posted in Games Discussion)

thanks for trying it out kryg smile

Yeah, it isnt very hard right now at all. We are going to have to really consider how many points you score upon removing blocks (the score basicly dictates how fast new blocks drop)
Apart from increaseing the drop rate have you got any suggestions on how to make it harder as time progress?

heh.. good question! wink

On the website in the download section, "If you get an error saying the software is not configured correctly, you probably need to run one of the vcredist_*.exe installers first. Which one you should install depends on your operating system; for a 32-bit OS run vcredist_x86.exe, for a 64-bit OS run vcredist_x64.exe."

well... you cant!

Any of you rp'ers out there also play puzzle games?

I am asking becuase I am currently in the progress of making a puzzle game together with a few others. The basic idea of it is a ripoff from bejewlled (ie, make 4 similar blocks get next to eachother and they will disapar and you will score points) but there are also some new and semi-original stuff in it wink

I would really appriciate it if some of you would check it out and give some feedback either here or in our forums(or on IRC). Linky to download: here

Its pretty important that you read the install notes. The game is still very much a work in progress and we are still missing a lot of stuff, so basicly what I am looking for is comments on the basic gameplay and the whole look and feel of the game.

For some basic information about the game check out this link

And last, a link to our front page to the lazy people out there wink

All feedback is welcome! If you think it sucks then say so, if its boring then say so (actually I think it is a bit boring in its current state, as i said its work in progress) - you are even free to comment on it if you arent a puzzle game!! cool

Thanks for the linky smile And... I guess you could claim I am having fun (fun in an mmo! unheard of!) otherwise I guess i would have stopped playing by now!

So I finally got to what seems like a 'part 2' in guild wars... this basicly seems to mean I get to fight a new type of bad guys. In my opinion it took a wee bit to long for this to happen.
Its very easy to forget about the story and just run towards to the quest marker on your map - but I would strongly advice against it. Not because the story itself is that interestings (not saying its 'bad', just...you know..) but it does seem to distract you just enough not to realise that their quests is absolutely mindless.

I doubt that the new expansion will make the quests less restrictive... I mean doesnt *every* mmo developer say this? To me it just sounds like you get to choose which of the mindless missions you want to play first wink

I did a bit of PvP. Basicly you just go into a specific location and you get to join a team (the number of members on each team seems to be depend on how far ahead in the story you have gotten) and then its simply a matter of killing the other team. I havent tried making a pvp char (see above post) so I dont know if its any different if you do choose to make one of those..but i think it may be.

Sooo... I finaly got it and played it for a good while now. I am lvl 9 (max lvl is 20) and got a warrior/monk ... which is basicly your typical paladin i guess smile
For those who dont know anything about guild wars:
You get to choose up to two classes, and really there is no reason not to choose two classes. Your primary class got one specific attribute that you cant get without having the class as your primarry. So for example my chars extra attribute is strengt, and no other class is able to get that - even if they choose warrior as their secondary class.

The game isnt as much about gaining lvls many other games. You are able to equip almost any weapon and use any skill you got no matter your level. What you do gain by going up in levels are health and some more attribute point. I should explain these attribute points a bit more in detail I think.
As said, you gain them on lvl up, 5 per level (at least thats what i have been getting so far). Your two classes decide which attributes you got and as you increase your attributes with the attribute points your skills become more powerful if they are assinged to the attribute you increased. Now, the *real* beauty of this system is that you are free to decrease and increase your attributes as you want. Say I already put 5 points into strength but I join a party with an other guy who will be doing all the tanking i can simply remove points from strength and put into one of my healing attributes instead - without loosing *any* points. So basicly you are free to try out all combos you want without having to grind afterwards to get your points back.

As said, its not as much about gainning levels. Actually it almost seems like its more about gaining new skills! You unlock new skills for your char as you do quests, or you can buy new skills at a vendor. You can unlock all skills for your two classes but can only 'equip' 8 at a time. So basicly you have to consider what you are going to be fighting, which weapons you will be brining, and who is in your party before making up your mind on which skills to equip. (skills can only be removed and added while in a town)

The weapons (and other equipment you find) are *very* 'weak'. With that I mean that at lvl 1 you start out with a weapon that does 3-6 in damge, the max damage that same weapon can do while you are later in the game is around 24. So it is not really a game where hunting for new weapons all the time is required either (as it is in DDO for example)

There seems to be a pretty solid story in the game as well that progress as you complete specific missions. There are quests and missions in the game. Quests are simply..well...a quest. Go to location x and retrive item Y. Missions are a bit harder to do and takes more time as well but they progress the story and open up a chance for you to get new skills and equipment ect....

Now... that is the short explanation of the game. For the good and bad things:
good:
- As I already said, i simply love the attribute point system! Its great..  you can adjust your char whenever you want without being punished for it! More mmo's should consider a system like this!
- The level design is also pretty awesom imo. The world does seem alive..well...to be honest the citys are a bit borring but the landscape while out hunting for badguys are pretty impressive
- Plenty of skills and you are able to combine the 6 core classes in whatever way you want. For example you could create a monk/necromancer, a ranger/elemnetalist and so on....
- I quite like the controls. Actually you can play the game only with the mouse if you wish. It also got point and click movement which is always nice.

bad things:
- I guess you could claim this game is nothing more then 3d diablo...
- In the end the quests are a 'grind'. They are nothing more then ' go here and do that then come back for reward' but to be honest it doesnt feel as much as grind as you are not required to do every quest(i guess you could actually skip them all and only go for the missions...) to be able to progress the story and gain new skills
- Apart from the citys everything is instanced - this also means that no matter how many bad guys you slay it wont affect the world...just like in every other mmo...sigh
- I had a bit of lag sometimes...nothing major but I did notice it a few times so it should be mentioned

Now for the... 'hm, what about?'
- What about making a new char and going through the same quests and missions...will it be borring? I dont know...yet. I could imagine some of it would actually be borring..but then again you will have access to new skills to make things more interestings.
- What about PvP ? I dont know... I havent tried it yet smile I guess I should mention that upon char creation you are able to choose between 2 types of chars. A roleplaying char (hehe..yes that is what they call it tongue) and a PvP char. The roleplaying char is what I have made and that is the type of char who gets to experince the story and unlock new skills etc. A pvp char got access to ALL skills you have unlocked on your account with a roleplaying char.

And now... What about roleplaying?? I would say that unless you play the game with a perma group from A-Z it would be close to imposible to do any meaningfull roleplaying in this game. You would have done different missions and thus, the story wouldnt have progressed equally for everyone. Of couse I guess you could simply create your own story however becuase everyhing is an instance you would have to be in the same party and in the same location at all times...

As a game? My first impression is that I want to contiune playing. The gameplay is still simple however the extra twist of the many skills and ways you can adjust your char at all times make it more interestings. I cant really judge if the story in the game is any good yet... So far it does seem decent but no way near close to the storylines of Baldurs gate, fallout ect.

I will be happy to answer questions about the game if i can big_smile

a punch? more like having a sledge hammer hit you in the stomach 3 times... wink

I can understand that the credit spammers is a problem, but as darkhawk points out this is the only game (at least that i know of) with a limit like this on the trial. I dont feel like pm'ing once i hit that limit... i want everyone within reach of the public channel to hear the rp

It may solve the problem of the credit spammers... but so would banning all accounts... my point is simply becuase it sovles the problem it doesnt mean its a *good* solution smile

Considering that I had no relation whatsoever with the people i did a bit of roleplaying with to day I am surprised at the quality of it. The people with roleplaying tags up do seem to go for it all the way. I got work the next days so I wont be able to play anymore right away so my impression of swg for now is:
Standard mmo(this is a bad thing btw), big world(both a good and a bad thing), if you know where to find RP it wont take long to be involved, and the quality of it seems to be high as well. As for the number of people roleplaying it seems a bit on the low end of what i had expected... but maybe i just havent played enough to judge that
Oh yeah...and if you do try the trial you better make a char who doesnt say much or suddendly you wont be able to respond to people... wink

ok this is STUPID!

I am really pissed right now at this trial...

I finally manage to get in contact with some rp'ers and actually enjoying just sitting around in a bar. Then..out of no where BANG! 'you have exceede the chat limit for a trial account, please wait 2 mins' huh?!? I think, good thing my rp was over and i was heading outside for a walk...

After a while I enter a shop and meet an other Rp'er and BANG..now I have to wait 4..yes *4* mins before I am able to chat! This is bullsh*t! They should have let us know that the trial account was only meant for grinders with no intention of chatting to anyone while in-game...

Suuure..this is to prevent the spam bots going crazy but this is NOT the right way to prevent that. They should hire some GMs to simply ban the spam bots, or make some kind of report system where a player can report a bot/gold seller and a gm can then check it out.

Why would i want to continue the trial if i cant RP without having to wait up to 4-5 mins before being able to reply to anyone?

Yes.. I am pissed tongue

uh... i had some rp in outmian yakta! I dunno if it qualifies as rp but we were both tagged as roleplayers and you could claim that it was IC stuff we talked about smile

I travled all the way to that city in the hope to find a lot of rp'ers hanging out there rp'ing away like crazy.... not the case!
The population of that place seems...well..low! The guild that seems to run the city are casual rp'ers who accept both rp'ers and none rp'ers. I even managed to get a mail from one of their members with details on their guild...just in case i was interested smile

Dark and sekra asked about some of the negative things in the game (as Mir havent provided any hehe) and without having played a whole lot yet some of the things that do bug me are:
1) mindless grind missions - but then again..isnt that almost a standard mmo feature by now?
2) Long travel distances. I guess this can be both good and bad depending on what you want from a game. I quite like huge game worlds, but travel has to be semi fast (or the travel itself has to be interesting). In SWG there is simply a LOT of land and it is not interesting to take your swoop bike or land speeder accrose all of Tatooien
3) Lag. In a game that is...a lot of years old.. I really didnt expect to find lag. I dont know if its server releated or if its my computer but i tried adjusting the settings and it doesnt seem to have any real effect. I honestly didnt expect that a game this old still had lag problems..
4) Controls. Yes, they can be adjusted but by default they should be intuitive and I dont really think they are. For example to un-target something/someone you have to press esc! The way you switch between how the mouse reacts to your actions by pressing alt is also confusing. In one mode the mouse is locked, which for me is the easiest way to control my char while running around doing mindless missions for person X. However often you need the mouse cursor to interact with things and you have to press alt again to disable mouse lock. It may sound like a minior issue but I find swithcing between these 2 modes very often and therefore it bugs me..
5) The citys are big but doesnt really 'feel' like living citys...which is quite a shame. I think the game could have gained from having limited player housing to pre-made citys so the population wouldnt have been spread out so much.
6) Why is Han Solo saving ME from the empire? who says I want to be saved? How did I end up in that space station anyway? ....
7) The smuggler missions seem pretty dull. Pick up some goods...travel a long way, drop it off and make sure you dont get shot on the way. Repeat.

Hmm...I guess thats it for now. Just wanna say that all the stuff Mir listed is true and that the game actually isnt *bad* as such wink  It does seem to have some nice features to support the roleplayers.... and hey...its star wars!
