I think, looking at the plot and the setting-up-time, I can go as far as to say it'll be over 4 hours.
All righty, we'll plan for Saturday the 19th, 5 PM British summer time.
Oki, so, due to timezones of the captain and GM lady, we are looking at a Saturday evening. But which Saturday evenings can you make? Prolly going to start around 5 BST, take several hours to play through the plot.
<OOC> ning says, "I would advise Terran, Betazoid, Centaurian, Trill maybe,"
<OOC> ning says, "Bajoran..."
Androids and holograms are a no. Vulcans are generally advised against as long-term characters since playing them correctly is about as interesting as playing a piece of furniture, so every Vulcan char tends to develope emotions at some point. Should be no reason to not make a Vulcan for the one-nighter though.
As for diversity vs. connectivity, I don't expect any problems with connecting since you've already been limited to playing on the Endeavour. The officers of all departments will work together to solve things, just like on TV. You can still feel free to double up on roles, if you want, since the positions nobody wants can be played by NPCs.
Would be neat to have a helmsman, though. There's never enough of those. Anyone want to fly a starship?
Ok, Ning, our friendly Holotrek GM is also curious about what departments you all intend to play, so she can better plan the scenario.
That sounds fun, but what about those of us who are unfamilliar with the Star Trek 'verse?
For a one-nighter, very basic information should suffice. I'll post more once we decide on what I can tell you without spoiling the tension, but basically we're looking at a Starfleet mission. You guys will be Starfleet ensigns (or below if you insist), and we'll be using the Starfleet player character ship, USS Endeavour. I expect at least the captain of Endeavour and one GM to be participating and running the event for us.
The character creation requirements have been significantly lowered for you, so you don't need to write up any elaborate biographies or such. You might want to call dibs on your favourite department in this thread, though, so we don't end up with 6 science officers and no helmsmen or such. The choices are science, operations, engineering, tactical, security, helm/navigation and medical. No command for you yet. You can also choose one that you studied as a minor subject at Starfleet Academy, for example my char majored in engineering and minored in helm/navigation. (Feel free to double up on me, this event is all about you.) Otherwise feel free to do as much or as little planning as you feel comfortable with.
If anyone wants to RP together, I've been offered a special one-evening session deal from Holotrek. There would be no need to write up long backgrounds, and one of the admin would run a plot just for us. If anyone hasn't heard me talk of Holotrek, it's a Star Trek MUx. The So, why should you spend several hours on this game that you possibly might not like?
1. Do it to do something with your friends in this community.
2. You might like it.
3. Holotrek gameplay is fun and profound.
4. Holotrek people are nicer than you.
5. Holotrek people are better RPers than you.
6. Holotrek people want more people, and are willing to go out of their way to accommodate us.
7. FFS, a few hours won't kill you.
8. People have spent effort preparing this event for you and are excited about it.
Post here if you're interested. Whine quietly by yourself if not. (will QFE if necessary)
Having recently re-subscribed, skill trained for a month and then unsubscribed again yesterday, I can't really say I agree with your estimate of EVE's superior features, but I could be coerced to re-subscribe again if we got a few Seeds in on it, but I seriously doubt that happening. At any rate, isn't that avatar dealy a year or so away, still?
Happy birthday!!!!
And EVE takes PayPal and PayByCash now, I'm sure one of those will take your card unless you made it yourself.
That's because you're all goofy commies, bumbling about space, haplessly trying to mine and hunt rats in nub ships and giving the proceeds to charity. Optimal for cuteness factor but not so much for progress.
What about now? Anyone? I'm downloading the client at the moment to revisit EVE. Should be pretty at least, with the new graphics in Trinity.
Prolly going to leave the Seeds corp and go independent until I can find a good deal. Anyone know about RPers, RP corps or RP alliances?
hny tbh

New Features
Township of Aurilia
Aurilia emerges from the mist in Chapter 7! The citizens of the village on Dathomir have decided to re-open their doors to the outside world. While Aurilia was hidden, the small village evolved into a bustling township still sympathetic to adventurers looking for help. Travel to Aurilia is available from Mos Eisley, Coronet, and Theed, but only to players level 70 or higher.
Residents of Aurilia serve as vendors of both information and valuable high-level items.
Heroic Encounters
A heroic encounter is a high-level challenge for a group of players looking to earn huge rewards. These encounters will take place in an instanced zone where players will take on challenging foes in epic battles like no other.
The township of Aurilia is a hub for high level players to meet other like-minded allies for quests and to prepare for heroic encounters. If you wish to venture through the new heroic encounters, you will first need to meet a few qualifications from the residents of Aurilia.
Collections
Collectors are seeking new treasures that can be found on all planets in the galaxy. These objects are recent, prized discoveries, so existing items and enemies you have slain before Chapter 7 will not count toward completing a collection. A collection begins when you come across a distinctive item, either in the environment around you or as loot dropped by a defeated creature.
There are also treasure-seeking NPCs in certain parts of the galaxy that might be looking for someone to track down the particular valuables they're looking for. Collector NPCs offer a Collection Removal option. Removing the collection will cause all progress in that collection to be erased.
Open the Collection journal in the game menu. The top of the screen shows the book for each collection you have started. Within each book there is at least one set, which can contain a number of collections. Click an icon at the top to see all sets and collections you have gathered items or kills for.
If a collection item has already been consumed by you, or the collection is already complete, the name will be red. If you have not consumed the item for your collection yet, the item name will be green. This will help with finding needed items on the bazaar.
If you are the first player on your server to complete a collection, you will be recognized on the Star Wars Galaxies community website and will also receive a special badge in game. In addition, other players on the server will see your name immortalized in the collection system user interface.
Chapter 7 Gift
C-3PO's comlink will help you get started on your first collection! C-3PO is in desperate need of your assistance. When you log in to Chapter 7, you will automatically receive a comlink that will provide direct communication to the legendary protocol droid. C-3PO will give you information about a special collection-based mission to earn a unique reward.
The comlink cannot be deleted, and cannot be used while the player is in combat or incapacitated.
