This is very true, but the way they've built up the hype around the game gives rather a lot of promise. It is certainly not aimed at button-bashers.

They would have to be immensely stupid to make it DX10 exclusive. Only a fragment of the gamer community has migrated to Vista, and as far as I've seen, MS have no intent to release DX10 for XP. Why alienate most of the gamers?

"A modern day online world of action, horror and intriguing conspiracies awaits"

http://www.conan.ch/tsw/TSW_poster.jpg

I don't know much about this. I've just recently caught whiff of it, but the premise sounds intriguing, to say the least, and Funcom have a pretty damned good track record. The game is apparently based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft, which means I will be trying it out. The premise seems to be the present world, but with hidden realities and occult truth. From many perspectives, this is an ideal setting for an MMORPG, and judging from the forums, they do have some inclinations towards that direction. Can we really hope that it will be great?

The press release.

The promo site.

The game fora.

What can I say... yum! Give me!
And they've fixed the ugly stations!

Hum... EVE with actual player interaction, I could actually get into.
It's a long wait, though.

Damn, damn, damn.
I'll have to cancel that. My economy just crashed all to hell.
Sorry... won't be able to make it. sad

I'll have one too, it seems. wink

More or less, yeah. I'm sorry for dropping off the face of the earth, as I do. Can't help it, I'm afraid, but I'm going to try to make a push to be on IRC more so that I may be able to catch skanx and get a beta version of the page up. After that it'll be easier to chip away at the issues that will undoubtedly arise.

Cheers for the poke.

Stellar work on the subforums. Kudos!

Presently loving Ministry "Broken".
I just bought "Animositisomina". This album is definitely underrated.

Coverdale and the boys did a cover of that? Ye gods. wink

Listening to an in-production cut of Serrate Sight "Phantom" here.
Never heard of them? I'm not surprised, since they're me, and I'm not done yet. wink

No real point in taking screenshots when you will most likely be able to see it live shortly. smile

I'm still a bit doubtful about the present forum implementation. With the changes I've made (to be uploaded) to the forum layout, it does fit, but it's in an auto-height iframe, and I'm not sure it will resize properly. I can only test that live, so we'll see. It will probably work in Firefox, but I'm suspecting issues with IE and possibly Opera.

All right... it's been long in the making, but it's getting to the point where it's time to toss the site design up on the server as an alpha and start fiddling with it live. I've tested it in Firefox (2.0), IE6 and the latest version of Opera. I still have some minor rendering glitches to work out in the latter two. I have yet to test it in IE7 because... well... if I install IE7, I can't test it in bloody IE6, can I? It's not as if MS would ever dream of letting you have both installed for development purposes. I'm going to have to try to find a way to test it, but that, I can do live. I'll be back on IRC some time in the coming days, so that I can bash heads with skanx over the site setup.

Cheers to those of you who've prodded me on without stressing me. You're great people. wink

Edit:
To give a bit of context: Lately, I've been trying to spend at least a little time each day on fiddling with the template design. It may look simple, but it isn't. Besides the black-box attitude one must adapt towards the page-rendering in different browsers (see above), I have basically had to rewrite Joomla!'s page structure, and the CSS they've used is... not overly well-structured, though infinitely better than that in Mambo and e107. I have a lot of unknown variables to figure out - especially since the layout is dynamic, and that is why it's taking so long. It is coming along, though. I've handled most of the big problems. The only major thing left to finish up is forum* integration and the last restructuring of the CSS. Please be patient. wink
(Oh, and skanx, I know how to solve your request now. It's doable. Pretty easy even. I'll just make a template where the left and right panes are inverted.)

* - forum, not browser. smile

Hmm... hmm... there's a POVRay version... hmm.... hrm... no... no I don't have the time. Should focus on the blasted website. wink

KMFDM "Free Your Hate".

Multiverse, a company founded by some of the old Netscape employees, has announced their intention of creating an MMOG based on the renowned television series Firefly.
Apparently, Multiverse are going to focus on building an engine capable of running all kinds of games and then hiring development companies to create the actual games. An interesting concept, and one that may well work. Being something of a fan of Firefly, I am very likely to check this out when it launches. They're aiming for 2008. I have no idea what the general gameplay focus will be, but Multiverse have said that they're not planning on making a clone of WoW or SWG.

The Wired Article.

Just to show that I am a nihilistic anarchist, Cubanate "Exert, Disorder". wink

You don't have to get the Good vs. Evil edition to get both games for the same monthly fee (though you do have to get both games). Furthermore, if you have one game and get the other, you don't have to download additional content. It's all in the same client.

It was nice running into you tonight, Tantavalist. Maybe there's a chance for CoX and role-playing after all. The big, silent guy in blue, by the way, was my little brother, whom we were introducing to the game.

The upstairs bar thing in Pocket D could easily become a focal point for RP. I'll be checking in there now and then.

I agree, and I am working on it! wink

Sorry for not being around much. I've had a busy time in this Real World game. smile

Addition:
At this point I've switched to a Mambo fork called Joomla!. It's just generally better. I've got maybe half of the design work done. Integration with the forum is visually workable with some slight rework of the forum theme (mainly width.) Logins will have to be separate, since there is a privilege system in the CMS. We're going to need two or three people who learn the system to act as editors and managers, beside the writers. The editors will have the task of making sure the content is formatted well and, possibly, spelled right, as well as granting privileges to users who wish to get aboard with writing articles. I think we should keep membership of the site relatively open, but privileges restricted to those we actually trust.

Yeah, CoH/CoV takes very little effort to play. While it's not exactly a deep game, it's amusing enough in its own way. Personally, what I like the most is playing with one or two friends. More people in a group gets me a bit too stressed out.
It's just... the kind of game where you can actually jump in and play for an hour just for the fun of it, and that's nice, in itself.

Looking forward to seeing you in-game!

That actually seems tasty! Insanity sometimes pays off!

Paatos "Your Misery", from the newly released "Silence of Another Kind", which is the third album by this wonderful, jazzy, experimental post-rock band.
