http://seedthecommunity.org/viewtopic.php?id=48 is the welcome thread, it's in the same thread as you posted, sticky item no. 2. But no matter smile Hiya there Elfus, of course I remember you. I was the player of Arash.

We're playing Saga of Ryzom now, and soon URU Live too, perhaps also Matrix Online, at least I think we're giving it a try sooner or later, thanks to Mir.

((letter sent to all guild members))

This Tria ((wednesday)), I would like to call a meeting of the council, and for all interested Seeds, at the 15th hour ((15.00 GMT)), hopefully in our new Guild Hall, which we will have purchased by then.

I have two topics I wish to discuss, one of which will be of fundamental importance as to how we function and act as a guild, the other to discuss some current issues and strategies.

Of course, I hope we can also take this opportunity to celebrate our new Guild Hall. If not this Tria though, then hopefully at another time, soon.

If the other council members have some issues they'd like discussed, I hope they'll follow up on this letter with their own topics.

Hope to see as many of you as possible.

Yours,

- Perun

Well, with such a guy as the lead, I guess the project wouldn't have gone far either. If it's not a prank. 'LOL'..

Subway to Sally with 'Ohne Liebe' (Hochzeit album)

I'm still up for this, if there's more than 2-3 players. But I won't be the one pushing for it, as there's a lot to occupy my time currently, and URU coming up too. So please someone push for it and I'm there wink

And Tantavalist, sent you a PM about MOO some days ago smile

Well.. I'd like of them buddy keys myself. I'll get a new computer in a month or so, and heck. 3 MMO's at the same time is no problem!

Indeed smile No need to feel you have to be play together or hang out together.

I don't like this, as I see it, artificial get-together so we can all RP together right from the start, especially not since it feels artificial. Sure, I have nothing against planned 'chance' meetings, but I'd prefer to just meet and slowly get to know people. At random, unless there's a very good, very fitting reason for something else.

Saying that we've all played Seed, and thus know each other. Well, that pre-supposes two things, as Norah pointed out:

1. that we do infact all know each other, more so than by our old Seed screen names, and have some reason to hang out together.

2. that we all have the same background story as a Seed player (meaning probably our own background story)

That's a little too assuming for my suspense of disbelief at least, and a little too much forcing players into certain roles imo.

In my view, we should make up individual chars, backgrounds and reasons for being where we are. We will meet up in time, probably also very early on. Then we can let it be up to our chars to interact and make bonds/a neighbourhood. And if they discover they hate each other? That's fine, then we don't force them to interact. We meet other RP'ers instead, forming bonds with them. Let's make it natural, not artificial. We won't miss out on RP since there are a lot of RP'ers hopefully, and we're still one big community, without having to force us together in game?

It's like forcing Faeron, Perun and Ract to be friendly and together for a common purpose. But what common purpose? It needs to be natural. Some of us will band together, sharing common views, others will band together with others. The only thing we need, is to get to meet and know each other at some point, and then go from there. That can be arranged without too much trouble, without shared backgrounds. Say, we have all heard about some special arrangement somewhere, or we all pop up at the same place, due to something. That's meta-RP in arranging a 'chance' meeting, but that's fine. It's also fine for me just to go around and meet other RP'ers randomly, slowly making bonds and playing my char.

Of course, like in SoR, I'd think it interesting if some players made up connections to others via their backgrounds, to add flavour and a stronger reason to be together. That could be arranged between individuals, but need not be arranged for the whole group.

Overall though, I say. Let players make their backgrounds and RP. Let us meet up in game via real or arranged chance encounters. We don't need to get together no matter what. Or at least that's my take on it.

Me too. Except for the System Requirements unfortunately smile

I say, we don't set up anything too artificial, because that won't be IC.

But, if say Norah goes ahead and make her, what was it, Seeds of the Great Tree? neighbourhood, or some other thing, and since it seems explorers get assigned random neighbourhoods, unless they chose themselves, we could say we 'randomly' ended up somewhat together, and then RP it naturally from there.

We've more or less settled in on how we have our RP conventions, through playing. I'll be writing them down shortly I hope smile

((the following sent to all members of the Seeds, from Nurep in Silan. Since it's his writing I thought we might as well make it IC, and comment on it IC. Except for the OOC part also attached of course. If it is accepted, or after it is accepted with changes, I'll post it to the official boards, and we can begin thinking a little more in terms of recruitment smile))

The Seeds of Atys

Atys is threatened. Slowly getting overrun by Kitin and infested by Goo while many homins are busy fighting each other for faith and greed. They are busy not working together, busy
not seeing the danger, busy not learning from the past, and busy not understanding that we are all equals, no matter religion or race.

This must stop, and it must stop as soon as possible. If we do not unite in purpose, we will soon have more trouble on our hands than hominkind can handle. Why are we fighting each other, when the Kitin stand ready to invade once more, and the Goo is slowly, unstoppingly spreading, corrupting all it touches? Why are we so blind, so intolerant, so set in our ways and lives?

Too many guilds of homins have no over-arching goals. They focus on acquisition of riches and skills, but to what purpose? Some focus on killing fellow homins, be it for faith, simple greed or thrill, others focus on providing a family or circle of friends. Many do a mix of these things.

Where are the guilds that want to change Atys, want to make it a better, safer place to live in for all? The guilds who see that intolerance and blind faith only lead to pain for all of Atys? The guilds that want to live and die for higher ideals?

A few are out there, and we are one of them.

The founders of the Seeds have all met each other in the ranger camp at Silan - the rangers taught us the value of cooperation and respect between races - even between faiths. In Silan, we also learned the joys of exploration and friendship. The Seeds of Atys have emerged from this soil. We represent those who wish for hominkind to band together and fight the great dangers, growing and learning together along the way. Our goals are ambitious:

- Demonstrate that homins of different races and religions can stand together
- Study and fight both Goo and Kitin

We are a young guild spending much time training and exploring Atys in preparation of achieving our second goal. For now our resources are limited, but if what we stand for resonates within you, you will be able to take part in shaping the guild, hopefully being part of something that will one day make a real difference to Atys.

Along the way, you will find friends to share joys and sorrows with, friends to help and get helped by, and friends with whom to explore and wonder.

For more information, or for meeting us face to face, you can contact any one of our current council members: Perun, Kendrus, Wheri or Dagannys.

For Atys!

((

we are a pure RP-only guild - open for those who wish to immerse themselves fully in their chars, going where the roleplay leads them. Our general rules are simple:

- always stay IC, unless using brackets (()) or [] for OOC
- generally avoid the use of OOC in public or guild channels

Experienced roleplayers will know what is implied by this, and we'll be happy to help new roleplayers settle into it. We also have our own take on ingame matters such as communication, death and respawning. What matters is not age or experience, but that you want to roleplay fully. If you do not like roleplaying or only roleplay part-time then the Seeds will not suit you.

We have a forum and our own IRC server for being social and OOC - we have a great community spirit and some of us are playing several games together. The forum (and in the future a homepage too) can be found at www.seedthecommunity.org.

(This site is not just for the Seeds of Atys, it is a place for all online roleplayers, regardless of guild. It is our hope to gather roleplayers from online MMOG's and give them a community and other RP friends to be with, making it easier for all of us to experience the RP we crave so much)

That's a huge topic for sure Tantavalist. And I'm one of the persons who think that 'yet' added to the sentence is just wrong on several levels. You can't understand why things exist, as opposed to not exist no matter what you do with science. The same applies to religion of course. The existence of any god or gods can't explain why things exist. How does something come from nothingness into being? That's impossible to explain in science or religion. Sure 'yet', but I believe and hope 'always'. The answer to that question, if it exists, is more about spiritual insight than scientific research though. And yet not. Because spirituality and deep physics have a wonderful tendency to merge and become one out there where the really heavy physics and metaphysics reside. I can recommend reading Roger Penrose for a physicist/mathematician view into that understanding.

Anyway, I just wanted to say, I don't think things are all that simple. Luckily. And I don't think religion is the cause of all problems and science is the opposite. The cause of all problems are humans. No matter whether physicist or faithful. Of course, it's a huge topic.

Oh, and blind faith, the need to accept a truth to believe in that you cannot verify before you have given yourself to it, that might the biggest challenge, with the biggest possible reward. Our Danish philosopher Kierkegaard likened it to taking a voluntary jump into deep waters, meaning you cannot gain insight without a fully voluntary act of death or transcension. It might possibly show you the universe you cannot grasp by science alone. Imo of course wink

And I'm agnostic myself and greatly dislike views that negatively impact humanism. Many so-called religious views do that, though it's more about the people behind a religion and their traditions and mindset, than about the religion. The framework of the religion can be altered to fit in with the views that some people want to advocate. And if this was not done in the name of religion, humans would invent a new name to be able to do the same.
It's just not all black and white. Religion bad, science good. If you view it like that, the truth will elude you I think.

And apart from that, it's still much more fun RP'ing religious or fundamentalistic people with certain absolute and unyielding truths. Otherwise, it's a bit too 'flexible', i.e. nothing matters, everything goes. More fun RP when your characters and those you interact with have a certain 'bite' to them. Which they certainly have with those views smile

Humans don't grow out of their spirituality, their fear of the unknown, their need for safety, nor their need for explaining the unexplainable (which will always be there to some point, science or not - there are final paradoxes that will stand as unexplainable - fortunately). I often play religious people, because those are the most interesting and satisfying to RP. But Lords Believers just suck and Miriam is an evil old crone. No offense Mir of course, maybe we'll get along well RP-wise ingame. Yes.. Trust me wink

And Tantavalist, I can 'save' you, in regards to MMO2 *wink wink, nudge nudge*. And I also played on impossible and won regularly. If my strategy was allowed to work. I find I lose against human players though, or can get close to losing at least *shudders*

MMO2 is of course the best 4X ever. No argument. I think Alpha Centauri would be better suited for RP though.

Lord Believers! Yes of course Mir. You and I will get along _exceptionally_ fine. Uh huh.

I agree with you Esme. Which I think I've expressed here and there. We came from Seed. But we should grow to be more centered around us being RP'ers online, wanting to provide a place for a lot of grat people to meet and launch RP from.

And as for logs, yes that would of course be much better. You can do those in SoR, but of course I didn't, and instead have hundreds of megabytes of screenshots now wink But they'd go very well with an article, to show concretely what you're writing about. Well, we can see about all that when we get closer to having the programming and layout finished smile

No, it means this was a long overdue little detail, that finally makes it into the game smile Though I would prefer /me and not /em. Oh well.

Speaking of long overdue details, with the speed we're gathering dappers for our guild hall, they might yet get in that you can invite non-guild members to visit, or they might actually implement the rooms inside the guild hall. At least they have some months yet in which to do that wink
