Soo... anyone played Portal?

I played it today (played and finished, very short) and for once I can actually recommend a game! big_smile

Interresting concept, great humor, and only becomes a bit repetitivefrom time to time (easy to imagine a game like this become very repetitivekinda fast)

The final boss fight (and end credits) is worth all 3-5 hours.

Hm... Let me know if this is going off topic from what kind of feedback you are looking for esme... but my current thoughts on the matter is:

First off lets assume this poll is about your every day MMO, not one of those Rp centric mmos we so despertly are trying to find in this community wink

It depends on the game. If the gameplay itself is interesting enough then events really doesnt matter that much. Let us assume that we got an interesting MMO (hard to find..but just for the sake of the argument wink ) then I would actually rather have either a lower subsciption fee, more new content, a kick ass service for when my char gets stuck in the world, more focus on keeping gold sellers out of the game, more focus on creating a good community.... etc....
My thoughts on events is that they are supposed to be a nice surprise. If the game is interesting then I cant really see why GM created events should be required in the first place. Making them 'required' really shouldnt be ...well...required! Sure I like a good event during the holidays or at holloween or whatever but as this is (as i assumed above) about your 'normal' mmo then having these events doesnt alter the actual game world anyway, thus I dont really consider them required or a 'must have'.
Focusing on community feedback, good in-game(and out of game) services is more important when the events arent more exciting then they are in most MMOs.... Just my humble opinion smile

I voted "A nice plus" ... but if there was an option in between," A nice plus" and "They dont matter" I would have choosen that i think smile

Hm well attacking a target, or doing an other none-chat action kinda looses its value I think. However I agree that it would be best if each player actually *did* something each turn instead of sitting around waiting for 5 mins... smile

You mean that you would be able to both start a chat (ie, look for contacts or contact someone you know) and take an other action during one round?

Wouldnt that take some of the interesting gameplay away?

Hmm... Well if your own turn only consisted of, for example, attacking a target and you have to wait for two chats to take place it could decrease the 'fun factor' a bit.... These kind of rounds are quite common as the gestapo cheif (at least in the start of the game).

However I dont think the problem is big enough to justify making any major changes to the way chat is handled... Afterall you could always spend the time thinking about the next move, who you can trust, making notes etc

Roleplay sets a stage. But not only that, it draws its participants fully into a world, creating an experience unlike any other. This roleplay can take place in real life, but it can also take place in virtual worlds and games. Indeed it's an entire subsection of games as a whole.

The importance of roleplay as a genre and as a game mechanic/play option leads us to this week's issue of The Escapist: Who Are You?

Web: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/features/issue/114

I just read the article called ' World of Warcraft Killed My Inner Actor' and thinks that the article in general is good...but oh boy is the conclusion wrong!

Just thought this might be of interested to some of you. Most of the articles from the Escapist are pretty good.

Heh yeah I agree the effects are quite extreem as it is, we will have options to fine tune all those settings to the players own desire, something I will most likely start codeing today smile

Maps are a cool concept! Will forward the idea, again thanks a lot for the feedback

haha that is awesome! smile

Btw a new version is up on the website if anyone is still interested in trying it -now featureing a fancy menu, tons of particles (need adjustments! Can change how they look by pressing 'p' ingame) glow effect and some other minor modifications

edit: btw if anyone got suggestions for 'awards' that can be given to players feel free to post them, we are currently designing that part of the game. For example an award could be given to someone after having played for a total of 2 hours, an other award could be given to someone if they managed to make a large chain and so on. Basicly a nice little award that is given to people after having grinded their ass off wink Ideas for awards that dont require grinding are *very* welcome!
