Agreed, Kryigerof. I was thinking the same thing. There might be a problem with that if subscription needs to be linked to a specific credit card number, though. In that case someone's going to have to take the responsibility and then the rest will send compensation to that person in turn.

Yeah I'm in for a share of the 4.95€ a month. Someone still needs to design our area, but it's a great idea.

I can live with your suggestion Mir, if I get to make one alteration:
There should be an IC reason before you use remote communication.
That is, if you are going to use it, make sure you have a viable reason (technological or magical) that everyone you intend to speak with are aware of and agree on.

The reason I want this is so that these channels don't just become chat sinks. What can be spoken of in the open (or in whispers if necessary) should be done so, because there's more RP that way. Also, we should avoid situations where someone asks "so howcome we can speak this way?" and everyone just goes "iunno."

Oh, and in addition, if you have, say a technological walkie-talkie kind of thing, how about RPing the fact that it's not perfect? It could have distorted sounds, hisses, humming and whatever. We did this in WoW to great effect. Magic communication, on the other hand, could be too direct and semantically confusing. People using terms that mean different things to themselves and saying too much... or assuming the other one knows things they don't by habit.

Great one. Cheers!

Unless someone comes up with an IC explanation for 2 that I can get behind, I'm in favour of 3 as well. I like the idea of actually talking things out. This, of course, assumes that everyone are as RP-focussed as some of us are and aren't going to be annoyed because they can't level effectively.

<Edit> For guilds, though, I suppose it's entirely possible that a guild has something that could explain an IC guild chat, such as magicks! or tecknologicks! so each guild could decide for themselves.</Edit>

Makes sense. I'll stick to that in the future. It's pretty close to what I do now anyway.

As I've done it so far, I've played it as being knocked unconscious and ending up back at the camp. It's a stretch, but I don't know. I just don't like the "dying" bit. I wish MMOG makers would just stop using it.

I'm a bit late here, but I agree with Darkhawk. We have an overhanging idea of where we want to go with this, and that's enough. Eventually there may be more scripted events, run by those who wish to be semi-GMs, but for now, what we need to do is to get our characters to bond, and that's already happening. Also, there is no reason every character has to like every other character. Hrm. Obviously. *grins at Esme*

As for guilds, I think we can safely wait with those. We have means of communication such as this forum and the IRC channel. Eventually, I imagine we'll have several guilds (based on whatever our characters are going to be focussing on) that centre around a community.

A great idea. As you said, we'd need to find a reliable server for it, but the premise is very sound! I'm going to try out the editor today and see how dynamic it is.

Keeping the Seed Community
Seed was a marvellous game with great promise and vision. It's over now it seems. However, part of what made Seed so great - a big part - is the community. Personally this community has been the best online community I've ever met, and never has there been better RP'ers in any online game I suspect.

Several of us feel the same way, and so we decided to do some things to make sure the Seed community can stay together and have fun and great RP experiences elsewhere.

Therefore, we've agreed to give 'Saga of Ryzom' a try ((www.ryzom.com).

The download is free for an unlimited time (but huge 1.6gb, 6gb unpacked), as long as you stay in the noob area. We'll gather and form bonds between our chars in this area, until we're sure we got most and have some idea as to what our plans will be. The server we will be using, will be the only english speaking server (there are 3 servers). Monday the 2nd October we'll start to gather (some are already testing now), and it should be easy to find us in the area.. We'll be the ones roleplaying.

As for me personally at least, I'll roleplay according to the same conventions we used on Seed. Always IC, unless using (()) and trying to keep brackets to a minimum on the public channels.

If SoR is not to our liking, we can find other games. This will not be as good as Seed obviously. For some of us, nothing can be, unless players are changing the world, no one is OOC and GM's are actually RP'ing ingame. Seed has spoiled us in that regard. It can still be better than anything else online though, if we make it so.

We've created an alternative IRC meeting place when #Seed goes down. The new place will be #Seed on IRCNet. Please join us there and help keep the community in existence.

We are also looking into creating our own forum and later homepage, for the Seed community, so we can have a place to gather and write stories on the web, organizing which games to RP in. This will probably take a little while coming into existence however.

So.. If you made friends here, if you felt the community was great, and if you wish to continue RP'ing with us in other worlds, please join us

Oluf wrote:

Not so sure about that game... but I will give it a try for sure! Its (at least imo) difficult to get decent roleplaying going when your roleplaying doesnt really have an effect on the gameworld.... But I will join in anyway

edit: Actually...after reading a bit more about it (not to mention the expansion they are releaseing shortly which seems more interresting then the game itself i think heh) it may not be that bad a choice anyway. With the expansion we will be able to create our own content and also decide who got access to it...that could hopefully spawn some good roleplaying

Just a small clarification on what Arash said there about the new irc channel. It will be hosted in IRCnet which consists of tens, even hundreds of servers that are linked together unlike just the one server that RUNEnet had where the seed irc was located. Many of these servers in IRCnet are country or even ISP specific only, so you have to look for a server that is "near to you" to join. There are a few possibilites in doing this.

First you should check your ISPs settings page for a IRC server address. 99% chance is that even though they don't say it, it is a IRCnet server. Your best option is to use the IRC server your ISP provides to you of course.

If that fails go to http://www.ircnet.com and browse the server list there. You will most likely find a server that will let you in from that list, even though some will provide only a restricted access that doesn't have all the functionality that a normal connection does but at least you can get in there and join the chat.

As for myself, I'm still thinking about my alternatives.. I've applied for the LOTRO EU beta test, but my hopes are not high for such a high profile game as that to have the kind of community I have found with Seed.. SoR doesn't.. well appeal to me much for some reason.. Even before Seed I had very high standards for a online game to play and that's the main reason I haven't even tried many MMOs since they just simply don't convince me enough. And now after Seed my standards are even higher... Feels so strange saying "after Seed"... But anyways.. Most likely I will take a break from MMOs and wait for a new one again.. Might take a year or two to find anything remotely as interesting as Seed.. Nevertheless I will be hanging out in IRC and propably will register in the hopefully upcoming forums too. A big cheers to everyone involved! It's been great!

Anyway, let's take the necessary coordination to the Off Topic forum.

For those who doubt, there is a lot of RP in Ryzom, and there are events about once a week, that are (mostly) played by GMs.
The Lore of the game is very deep, and although the races are not different in stats (so same strength etc), for some bizar reason, the people who play them, play the races in a different way.

If you are going to give it a try, and are in need in some help, send a /tell to me.
(ingame name is Sxarlet)

(and for those who are still doubting: a fansite with lots and lots of player made video's)

Great move! I'm also a Ryzom player since a year back. It's a nice game that will be a great game with you guys.

If you give Ulani a /tell I can (very OOC) form the guild "Seed" and transfer the leadership to one of the Seed-ringleaders (since you can't form a guild on the free trial island). I will also be making a new alt to play with you.

EDIT: or "Da Vinci" would make a more appropriate guild name I think

Tin wrote:

Right. A few of us (the usual suspects) had a discussion on how to get a community together once we're in-game in Ryzom, and managing to keep it IC. We figured we need to group up, and the easiest way to "happen" to do so is to find a spot where we tend to gather. I have a suggestion for such a spot.

When you stand facing the Tutorial Guide (that long-winded Zoraï), turn left. You'll see a small, top-heavy tower structure. Go to it. When you get to it, turn right (not left). You'll see a seller's tent with a red light on it. Behind it is a small camp area without NPCs. We meet around the fireplace.

Also, we should try to keep our RP conspicuous, so that others can find us. That means we may be have to be a bit more dramatic and talkative in the beginning, but hey... we're refugees, right? We're lonely.

Also, for those of you who have trouble finding the manuals and such:

Quickstart: http://www.ryzom.com/documentation/Manu … e.pdf/view
Reference Manual: http://www.ryzom.com/documentation/Manu … ence_book/

Hope to see you all in the game!

edit: Got the directions wrong.

Me too.. *grins*

I created new character and staying in tutorial area untill we know what we do. I think we could make a new guild? (I think we can't make guild in tutorial area)

As we all races are in same tutorial area, it will be easy to find us, but I'm not sure what happen when we get main land. I think all races get separated? Moving from race towns to others is really hard for new players. There is ususally treks for it. Where older players escort group of new players around. Of cause teleport tickets cost about 10k, so save what You can.

I left SoR so long time ago, that even tutorial is changed and I don't remember much.

But anyhow, see You all in SoR.

*Little matis girl waves Hi*

Tin wrote:

We've been mulling that over too, Sabrina. Some of us have a few ideas as to how we might do it, and the main plan is to eventually settle around an area in the game where we can roleplay as a community. Where is still completely unknown. We don't even know if SoR has an area where such a thing is possible.

The exact nature of the how is best played out in character, but with the characters gathering around that camp fire and bonding, we may be able to create a community that eventually decides to hang together, IC that is. Most I've talked to are, like me, unwilling to metagame anything but what's absolutely necessary. A diaspora of races and a struggle to get back together and find a place to settle would make for a great plotline to follow. We may even be able to pick up other roleplayers along the way.

Some structure (such as what I just detailed) is probably going to be necessary, since we don't have any GMs. Likely, this will be discussed on IRC. I'm not adverse to doing some planning and GM work, if only to keep things running.

I don't know how long this place will stay up, but... comments, ideas, suggestions? smile

We have set up a temporary forum for us all to keep contact and decide on what games to play, how to play them etc.
The url is : www.imperial-guard.dk/seed

Feel free to come and make an account over there so we can all keep contact. Many people might find it more easy to keep in touch at a message baord then on IRC. Of couse, as long as these forums are around we should still be hanging out here but we dont know when things will close down here so better to be prepared and have a way to keep contact.

We will most likely be getting a new url too with time wink
So come and sign up if you want to be sure to keep touch and maybe, hopefully, find a game where it is posible to do some good interresting roleplaying in!

Hello to all of the community.

I'm deeply affected by Seed's sudden end. I have been here from the beginning and its been a year since I saw the plans for the game and read the early concept website and said to myself "This is it! This is the one!". I've been in the forums since there and some of my posts have risen to a lot of controversy. I wanted this game to be perfect, to be everything I ever imagined...and it did!! I beta tested it, endured the weeks of instability and crashing. Hunted all the bugs I could. The game launched and I immediatly replied to all "neagative and attacking" posts with a word of confidence in this great team. My support goes now to all Runestone's staff. They showed me what is dedication to a game and to a community (and I've beta tested and played a lot of MMOS). They gave hope to a MMO veteran who lost all hope in this games after desapointment after disapointment. After beeing lied about features by big companies, after beeing teased and humiliated for Rping in a game. For trying to have fun in a roleplaying game.

This team showed me there's still a place for people like me, and that is why i've given my free time to help them build this. I've retired from the game in the end of May because I wanted to wait for more implemented features and since my RL work allowed me few hours online, I tought it would be 3 months until I returned. It was...but nothing could prepare me for Krolls letter. I had just payed for 1 month. Was experimenting with the new features and beeing extremly well received by the community.

I've played Ryzom and didnt like it. But I guess I will back up this community effort like I backed it so early in the road. I've posted a congratulations for your 300 members in the comunity, so I feel part of it from the beggining. I'll try to find you in Ryzom, I'll make the effort to establish this community there. If not for what was Seed, the idea, the concept, the hope...then for what Runestone has tought every single one of us.

They made us dream the impossible...
