See, this is somewhat annoying if I read it right. It means we'd age a year in 2 months. So we'll be holding a lot of birthdays wink I've never liked fast-aging in my chars, but apart from that, I guess 1 year passing each 2 months is reasonable if you play and develop your char often. This means my char will have to have his 20th birthday soon, heh.

QUESTION 1)
How long is one year in real time? And one season in real time?

ANSWER
The equivalences ryzom time/real time are the following ones:
1 year of Jena (JY for Jena Year) = 2 real-time months
1 Atysian cycle = 2.57 weeks = 18 real-time days
1 Atysian season = 108 hours = 4.5 real-time days
1 Atysian month = 36 hours = 1.5 real-time days
1 Atysian week (6 days) = 432 minutes = 7 hours and 12 minutes
1 Atysian day = 72 minutes = 1 hour and 12 minutes

How long is a year of Jena, and what is an Atysian cycle?
Only the year of Jena corresponds in the background to the Earthly year. The periods of time as the seasons, months, weeks and days are four times shorter on Atys than on Earth. An Atysian season is four times shorter than a earthly season. The same thing for a day. That's why the cycle was created: this period of time corresponds to the common vision of the year (4 seasons, 12 months...), as a revolution of the planet around the sun.

Summary:
One year of Jena is constituted by 4 cycles, 16 seasons (4 spring-summer-autumn-winter successions), 48 months, 240 weeks and 1440 days.
An Atysian cycle is constituted by 4 seasons, 12 months, 60 weeks and 360 days.
Note that the year begins with spring.
Atysian days contain 24 hours. The number of minutes and seconds is identical to the Earth system, but obviously, everything is four times shorter on Atys.

If we give the equivalences real time/Ryzom time, it is necessary to clarify the information above, or one year of Jena will be likened to a period of 12 Atysian months, while it lasts 48 Atysian months (but 12 ground months).

I'd just like to point out that if you're cooking your own stories ingame, and would like one or more NPC's to play a part, then feel free to tell either Kryigerof or me, and we'd be happy to help you create something. We can be contacted over our IRC channel or via PM on these boards.

Hey Trevenni, we miss you smile If you don't get back and offer advice to Perun, he'll become completely reckless and irresponsible, hehe.

Was in on some of the tour. The gfx are ugly or simple yes. Other than that, I recognize that this is one big sandbox where you can do a lot of things, including building your own content. There also are many tools available for RP, though the fact that you can't easily change your name is annoying.

However, I would far prefer PnP to SL I think. It doesn't seem directly appealing to me because of interface and graphics. A matter of taste, I can easily see you could build up something fun with it.

Well well, I might have Perun write some IC update, but he's quite busy having fun and trying to challenge every beast in the desert right now.

What you write is true, we're totally scattered right now. Not so much geographically as in playing time and how much time we actually have to play. After the initial campfire surge, things have normalized as in Seed, with only a few playing constantly. This, combined with being scattered geographically makes it somewhat difficult right now.

We're working towards the grand plan, and once we get to that, we will have a meeting place and more direction/general RP. However, moving around Atys is very difficult. And most difficult of all is to get to and from Fairhaven, where we have 4 or 5 stranded Trykers now. We're training to be able to get there, while hoping we can get some IC help from others too, but it's also a matter of coordinating who's online when.

It might take a week or more and a lot of spilled blood and mangled bodies before we're all united in Zora. It'll be good once it happens though, and it will feel like an accomplishment.

And by all means, more IC texts smile

Therion with 'Birth of Venus Illegitima' from the 'Vovin' album.

And since Esme wrote so much about what she listened too, and even mentioned a game I have a special fondness for, I must check out that song.

AN elephant might have trouble getting quality RP Esme. But at least it can listen of course wink

Topten was channel stats. It checked how many words you wrote (via tracking your IP I think), how many sentences, and how many smilies. It saved a random quote from you.

If you wrote !topten, you'd get a topten highscore of words, and if you wrote !statsme you'd get all of the info on yourself (and !stats 'handle' would give you the stats of another)

But Wheri, the ballisticmystix site actually has a great and comprehensive tool for foragers, where you can see a list of materials and then click to see where on the map you can find it. Just so you don't end up doing more work than neccessary.

In regards to SoR, I think you're both being too negative Tanta and Ahnion.

Of course the devs focus more on things that will give them money than on RP. And of course we could wish for a better game to RP in. Also, yes, there's a lot of grind if you wish that.

However, I have just been confirmed in my initial viewpoint coming into SoR: That with RP'ers, any game can be incredibly interesting and suck away (what remains of) your real life. You can play a barmaid full time, or a hunter going into the wilds, a beggar on the streets, etc. not grinding at all, if you wish. You just need to be around other RP'ers. I have 40 names in my Friends list now, who are all RP'ers. It gives me immense pleasure logging in and RP'ing (ok, so I am actually grinding a lot right now, but.. wink).

Other games and other settings might have their own appeal too. A very few games (Seed, possibly URU) might have better developer focus on RP. But when it comes down to it, RP will find a way. I have had as enjoyable RP moments in SoR as I had in Seed. There's a lot SoR does not have that Seed had, but also vice versa. It is possible to RP other situations and context in SoR, than was possible in Seed.

I for one, don't want to bemoan what is not there. The devs decide that, and in SoR, we won't influence them. Better to focus on what IS there. And that's RP. I also think there is amazing potential in our site, in regards to drawing online RP'ers together so we can enrich our gaming experience.

Realistically, other games won't be worse or better than SoR, if there are enough RP'ers present. The only game that might be better, from its premises, is URU. But I still think what matters most are the roleplayers, and it is important to note, at least I do it, that I enjoy the RP moments in SoR as much as I enjoyed them in Seed.

And this is not a defense of SoR as such. It's just a game. We create the context. It could be any game with minimum requirements fulfilled. SoR is a huge, well-done game in its own right, somewhat original (and french, it shows in places, heh), and that's that.
