Happy Birthday! May you have lots of chocolate and presents today smile

This is what we have agreed I'd say. Saturday at 18.00, the 5th at Café Smagløs.

For those who want to meet earlier on saturday or friday/sunday, we will figure something out too, though that needs to be even less formal than this.

For how long can we stay at Smagløs? And yes sure, saturday works for me too.

Ok, as I said 2 weeks ago I can't play today, but I guess we can wiggle it so my char is away or something smile

.. Which means Frakel and Hatetank wink

However, as for organizing this. We need a place and a time. It seems people will arrange hotels or stays themselves, that's fine. So not much organizing is needed really. Just an arrangement for a place to meet, and we'll take it from there, also in regards to those that want to stay a bit longer than for half a friday.

If we say it'll be friday the 4th, the next question shows up, namely when? Will all people be able to attend at, say 18.00 GMT+1, earlier, or later?

And apart from that.. *gently nudges Frakel to write about the place he knew where we could be if we were less than 25*

To all members -

In two days time, Kyerna has promised to brief us on Tryker funeral customs. We should all attend this and afterwards discuss how to make the best possible funeral for Mercellus, sending him off with dignity and amongst friends, so please attend if possible.

I'm in! And I can take a weekend or so off to show people around too, I think.

I can also help with some arranging, but I don't live in Aarhus, so I can't do the main-work.

Great initiative! wink

I think this goes here. At least we'll pretend it does.

So, I was thinking, and have been, for some time actually, that it was time to gauge interest in a thing we decided to arrange some months ago when Seed was still alive.

A Seed Convention or meeting of sorts, in Aarhus, second biggest Danish city, around the 4th-5th May, very close to the one year launch date of Seed. We'd try to get devs and GM's and players, in short the community, gathered for an evening/day/weekend of get-together, reminiscing, talking about present and future too and just in general have fun and see each other in real life.

Is this scary? Maybe so, but I'm pretty sure we'd have a good time smile

So, there are some things we need to do. First off is seeing how many would be interested of course. Reply here to this thread if you think you might be coming.

Second is that someone in Aarhus should do some organizing, of course helped by some of the other Danes. In regards to finding a restaurant/bar to meet at. I'm sure those coming from other countries who wish to stay a few days to see Aarhus/Denmark could be accomodated with guides and people too, but there's enough time to figure that out.

For now.. Who's in, and who wants to help plan it and knows places where we might get a good 'partyhosting' deal?

Will be there :
Darkhawk
Miho
Nuala
Nuala's boyfriend
Quanto
Frakel
Oluf if it's the 4-5 may
Hatetank
Relic

Ok, first off, I haven't had a more intense planned RP-event in SoR than this one, mainly sparked by the conclusion to it. It was over-all great Frakel. I think the PnP approach is not just one thing you can do, it is THE thing, and the more of it in any game, the better. And I appreciate how much effort and preparation you put into this. It felt well-thought through overall.

To answer your questions. Was the plot too thin? No, not really. It was a bit on the light and easy side up until the end, but that was a wise decision on your part. Too much can quickly become.. way too much, especially since this was your first try. Was the plot too thick? No, I don't think so.

Downtime, no. Actually I think this went perfectly, and I hadn't expected chars to pop in and out this quickly. When Perun split from the rest to go to the academy, I had expected nothing to happen, yet I did meet someone there. And when we went quickly to Pyr, there was someone in the bar. Very nice.

The chase worked out, but things happened a little too quickly for me. As in, suddenly one of the Fyros in the bar were gone while my attention drifted from the screen. But that's my own fault wink The drunken RP was pulled off very nicely by both NPC's, btw.

I don't think there was enough to do for all players, but this is notoriously difficult to get right, particularly in this medium. With a bit more of planning, you could have looked at a role each players char could have taken and made something for them. However, I think you're on your way to doing that, and also did it to a degree. And I think you tried well to get Kyerna into it with the amber. The scope of this event was limited, which as I said was wise. So it's not as if every char would get a lot to do or have too many plot branches. So no big worries I believe.

As for too tight or controlled a plot, again that is wise to have for this first time, making it easier to control and run along in a timely manner. There wasn't too many possibilities for choice or branching before the end, but then there was a MASSIVE possibility for branching. I'm not usually surprised by anything.. Too jaded, seen it all. But this did surprise me smile

All in all. Very good and even more promising for the future. You have your heart in it, and that's actually the most important thing. But by this I don't mean it was only your heart pulling it through smile

Patience.. All good things come to those who wait. And I needed something EXTREMELY hardcore this time. Yep. Because it was apparently so easy the first time around when I was being nice, here's something that I'm betting you won't get:

1. The name of the game.
2. The year of release.
3. The publisher/developer

Bonus:

What could you do with the huge turtle in this game?

You'll NEVER get this one.. Wahaahaaah..

Hai. I understand. I am new and do not know everything yet. However, this project, to learn more about how TAU works and be able to modify is programming, is still important. Are there such programs ongoing?

Even if it takes access to the Lower Cluster, there is no reason to first begin on this research when access is achieved. And it would be wise for a team to look into establishing access down there at the same time.

I find this discussion strange - how could you miss the obvious solution?

It is vitally important not to exceed floatbed capacity, all should be able to see and understand this. However, building new floatbeds is just a waste of time and resources, unless we need the extra Seeds for work in the tower? Why waste space and time and resources on a heavy and inefficient solution that doesn't even seem to get anywhere? Here is my solution.

Go into TAU's software and take over control with how many Seeds are spawned.

There are several benefits to this:

1. We can regulate birth of new Seeds to the task at hand. If we need many, we tell TAU how many we wish. If we need less, we regulate that.

2. Turning off production of Seeds in specific areas. We can stop the birthing of mentally damaged Seeds in certain floatbed chambers too.

3. We save resources and manpower on the research - a small dedicated software and possibly hardware team is all that is needed initially. No need for building things for testing or involving many people.

4. The knowledge we gain from this project can be applied to many fields afterwards. We need to be able to understand TAU better and modify it when it does things that are not benefitting the survival of the colony as a whole.

I am a new Seed, specializing in software and hard science. I do not have the knowledge others have. I do not know who made the AP system, which must have required similar knowledge to implement. I do not know if any of these are alive yet, or if there are recordings about their methods. I have presented the idea that is the most efficient and has the most chance to succeed. I do not need to be the project-lead on this if others are more qualified, but we need to get started now.

Please reply here or contact me to arrange this project

From what I've heard, Vanguard sounds totally generic to me, and I can't see any indication that it will have better RP or RP tools than other games. Not that I would know, haven't checked myself. I know a few who do play it though, and no one is that thrilled.

There's also Chronicles of Spellborn, which like Vanguard looks to be another big generic fantasy setting, albeit in a slightly (slightly) more original setting.

However, as I mentioned before, a NWN2 PW is probably our best bet? I played on one of the greater NWN 1 PW's, and it was great, including applying with a background to get in. Mir has tested some but didn't sound too happy with them. I guess I'll be snooping around them too when I get NWN2 myself. We'll see.

As for machine specs, yes. There's a red thread in all of this, and I think it is time for all of you to upgrade. I can say this easily enough, as I am upgrading next week ;D But really, the next-gen online games do require it.

Oh and Esme? You're such a newschool gfx freak. Drop thinking about Vanguard and such.. You KNOW where the sweet stuff is.. Oh yeah, come join the daaaark side... *nudge*

I think it's time for an honest discussion about SoR. Becuse it's more important that we don't lose community members due to a SoR bleedout, than it is important to avoid this subject in order to keep those who are left ingame, ingame.

When we started out in SoR, it was to be our Seed replacement (yeah, not that anything could replace it), where we'd try to take our community. Of course the real community gathering place is our website here, but most of us decided to give SoR a try to play at least one game together all of us. Since we started, we've only had one direction ingame though, and that is losing players. We started out around 20 I think? Half that quickly saw that they didn't want to live through the grind, heh. The others went on for some time. We also got a few new players attracted to our community, which was one of the goals too.

But yes, we've had some bleed-out, and as far as I can see, never managed to build self-sustaining momentum. And now we're down to Kendrus, Mercellus, Perun, Artash and Shula, with the last two not being much present ingame. Which is of course no admonishment to them, just a statement.

And now it just so happens that because of RP getting more scarce to find and participate in in SoR due to a general exodus of players, and due to me having found something which has much more RP and no grind (Shadow Siege yes, which is admittedly not for everyone, being text-only),  I will also cut back on playing SoR. Actually I have already done that for 2 weeks or so already, but it took some time to step back and see it.

I'll be around for any and all RP, but I guess I'll take a more passive role, not directly creating new stories. I'll also be able to log in immediately if poked. I do think we should do something to find a more unifying game to play in though, now that we are so few left in SoR. Only problem with that seems to be that there are no alternatives? Or what do the hordes of you who did quit SoR say? How about we begin discussing the next best thing to come along that might draw a number of us, enough to gain momentum and gathering ingame. We need to recruit new members to our community, and give the old ones as many reasons as possible to hang around and be active smile For me, the community is more important than the game, as we will be able to create the RP I crave, if we are in sufficient numbers at least.

I think such a game is not immediately on the horizon. Lord of the Rings Online perhaps, Conan? More likely a good NWN PW, perhaps the Rome one? And most likely we won't ever get the perfect MMO anyway. But if we could find something that would make us gather again? Frankly URU is not doing a good job at this either yet, and I don't think SoR can draw you in again either.

Well this is a discussion going outside of SoR, but feel free to reply here anyway, the more the merrier really. Frakel has been doing exactly what was needed to stimulate RP and interest in SoR, and that's great to see. Such initiative is what is needed in any game we'd join to keep the kettle boiling. Without that, and participating in the stories and lives of other RP chars, SoR stands as the (friendly) grindathon it is. Which is as with most, if not all, other MMOG's.

I also have a concrete suggestion for SoR, if people are willing and ready. How about we play SoR exclusively at least once a week, gathering an evening all of us to do stuff together? That would create stories and motivation to log in on other days too maybe. And it could once again, make bonds with other RP'ers. But we need some more organization for such things. We should have done this earlier really. Anyway, I'm up for it and would suggest wednesday evening, though that is only a suggestion of course. Who's in?

Anyway, I've had a lot of unforgetable and intense RP moments in SoR, and this is no farewell thread to that game, 'just' a post to say that Perun will no longer be the moving force for IC mess/stories and change that he once was, along with a nudge to the entire community. We'd best not grow too stale and have the fading in SoR reflect on the level above, our community. So, what to do, huh?

I think it is time for a slight *nudge* now, in regards to our homepage. Not so much at Ahnion I think, as the design is ready? But at Skanx maybe. I do get a little nervous when the web and IRC admin drops off the face of the immediate online world, eheh..

Can't the two of you get together, so we can set up the homepage and go from there? We're almost there I believe, at least Ahnion has something ready to be put online, right?
