There's a Swedish expression that translates roughly to "An accident seldom comes alone."

We'll still be here when you get back. Best of luck in managing the situation.

Oh, and thanks for raising our hopes of the level of RP in Ryzom. wink

I'm very fond of "seedthecommunity.org" myself, becuause of its double meaning (seed - the community and seed the community (with roleplay)) and because it references the old Seed URL. That's just my preference, of course. wink

Yeah, I know /. had this recently but Mir and I started raving about it and I wanted to try the poll feature, so here goes!

Personally, I'm a big Nuclear Desert/Wasteland fan. I know it's Highly Implausible. I don't care. I think we should work to make it happen, even if it's tricky!

Entry II
Approximately Two Weeks After Arrival At The Silan Refugee Camp

Perun, Dagannys, Kaylee and Naetin left for The Mainland today, being the first in Our Troupe to Make The Journey. We are to rendezvous in Zora once we have Made Our Travels. Wheri and I are leaving in a Short While, as well, possibly in the company of Paradoxis.

We had a Marvellous Farewell Party for them - a Large Group of Homins Of Various Races intermingling. Perun Himself intermingled greatly with a Lovely Matis Girl named Emaelle to the point where they had to Move Their Proceedings To Private Quarters. I must admit that though the party was Glorious Fun, I am beginning to feel Mightily Alone - and I don't mean in Terms Of Friendship. If only Milles would See Things My Way. I know she Likes Me!

I have made a Most Wondrous Discovery! The sap from the Dante tree has Similar Properties to that of the Sinla back in South Trykoth! Wheri tried the Enola variety and found it Strong And Bitter, but Definitely Drinkable! We put these to Great Effect during The Party, to the Sanguine Surprise, Mighty Merriment and Inebriated Instability of the various attendees.

(Note to self: Never try Visc sap again. Major Metabolic Malady!)

I have been putting my Experiences of Survival to Good Use here on Silan, getting increasingly skilled at Foraging for [d]Stu[/d] Various Useful Materials that Atys has to offer and [d]Kicking The Dung[/d] Taking Down various Beasts Of The Land. I have even Tried My Hand at crafting Armour and found that I do indeed have a Minor Talent for it. The Guides continue to offer Helpful Advice and [inkblot] Simple Tasks for me to perform. Wheri is getting Most Skilled at crafting Armour, as well!

Discovering that there is In Fact a lake in the Northern Part of the Silan Area invigourated me mightily. I have spent Many An Hour relaxing in the Slow Waters, watching Many A Curious Homin scurry around the island in the Middle Of The Lake and talking nonsense. I am beginning to believe there is actually a whole other Inter-Homin Code Language I know nothing about. They cannot all be Rotting Goo-Heads, can they?

While Silan is Most Relaxing, I hope Wheri and I will be able to Travel To The Mainland soon. I thought I would Greatly Enjoy finally settling down after my Long Journey, but I find myself more restless with Each Day That Passes.

Maybe what I Really Need is a Particularly Successful Night with Milles!

Top domain is probably optional. I chose org because I think it makes the most sense.

I'm a serious music addict, and my list of Great Bands is longer than I am. I'm always open to new influences though, so here's a thread for posting about Those Bands... you know... the ones that noone seems to know about but everyone should. Really. Yeah.

Here are a few of the bands I love to pimp:

• Course of Empire
- Amazing industrial-tinged alternative rock band who made three outstanding albums and then disappeared. You think REM's Monster was alt. rock? Think again.

• Last Rites
- Started by ex-Fields of the Nephilim members, the Wright brothers, Last Rites have a sound all of their own. Heavy, complex and layered gothic rock. Deeply recommended.

• Love Is Colder Than Death
- You like Dead Can Dance? You wish there was more stuff like what 4AD released? LiCtD aren't a copy of DCD, but they have a lot of similarities. They're also great and even more amazing live.

• Sundown
- Cynical, jaded, bitter and seriously pissed-off, Sundown is a heavy, pounding industrial metal project by Cemetary main man, Mathias Lodmalm. "Glimmer" is possibly the best album of its kind that I have ever heard.

• Pale Forest
- A Norwegian, semi-progressive pop/rock band with influences from the gothic scene and an unique and wonderful sound.

• Paatos
- A Swedish, progressive jazz-rock ensemble, sporting a strange and wonderful style as well as a penchant for doing the unexpected.

• Estampie & Qntal
- Two projects based around the same two people: multi-instrumentalist Michael Popp and the immensely talented singer, Syrah. Estampie is altogether medieval/folk music done with staggering skill and flair, while Qntal takes the same music into the third millennium with quirky electronica and processing added to the mix.

...I could go on, of course, but I'll stop here. Hope something of this sounds interesting. Which are your favourites?

I've always been a stickler for democracy, so before I go ahead and make a poll for which domain name to use for our webspace, I'll toss up this thread to give everyone a chance to make suggestions.

So far, we have:

Ahnion wrote:

seedthecommunity.org
seed-community.org
savetheroleplay.org

Norah wrote:

SeedRPCommunity.org
Seedroleplayers.org

If you have any suggestions you think should be included in the poll, please post them here.
I'll post the poll in five days. Hopefully that will be enough time for everyone with interest to make their voice heard.

So we've got server space, design and domain covered, but only myself working with the CMS. Hm. We'll have to see how this works.

As for domain, something like:

seedthecommunity.org
seed-community.org
savetheroleplay.org

...perhaps?

Oh, and thanks for the positive comments on the design. It took some fiddling. smile

As it seems, domain and webspace is not a problem. We still need people to make the damned site though. wink

Oluf wrote:

And about making the site. We got Nuala who, i think, is a master-php-type-of-person. I myself can help make layout and gfx for it.

Well, yes. Nuala is obviously the prime choice so far, but she's also very busy and while I can't speak for her, I think it feels rather awkward to toss more burden on her. That's part of why I volunteered to fiddle with it.
I can do graphics and design as well. (There's a forum style I've made, loosely based around the original Seed forums. It's coming in as soon as Nuala can implement it. http://ahnion.centralen.net/temp/seed-s … nshot2.png for a screenshot) Perhaps, being two of the most opinionated people in the bunch, we can beat our heads together and get a really good site design. wink

Oh and as for space, I don't think that's the problem. Traffic might get to be, though.

NOTE: This journal can only be read OOC. It is not available for IC reading for obvious reasons. It's intended as an entertaining way of gaining a bit of insight into what's going on in Ryzom and what it's like to be a Tryker (or, well, to be Tinai Kin'ter, at least.)

Entry I
Approximately One Week After Arrival At The Silan Refugee Camp.

I promised Chelnaa the Zoraïs (Praise His Memory) to start a Personal Journal as soon as I could Acquire a Suitable Book for the task, to keep my Writing Skills effluent and to help me Recall And Structure things that has happened to me during my travels. For Reasons That Shall Become Apparent, I have not had opportunity to fulfill My Promise until today, so this first entry will be a Recapitulation Of Recent Events.

It has been a Very Interesting week since I arrived here. I have made Many Friends and learned much. Soon I shall depart, once again, this time for Fairhaven, city of Most Promising Prospects. More about this Later.

My Entrance into the camp was Most Confusing, as I slipped in a pile of Rotting Bodoc Dung just as I was about to go through the gates and, having the choice of continuing my Mad Dash or falling face first into more of Aforementioned Rotting Bodoc Dung, ended up with my Poor Head considerably shaken by the Sturdy Wooden Fence that apparently surrounds the premises.

My Mind took a turn from the Collision and I lost much of my Memory, which Gradually returned during the following week.

As Such, it was with Some Reluctance that I approached the Zoraïs Greeter on the Hilltop. He seemed a Friendly Sort, nonetheless, and told me Many Things that, even in my Addled State, seemed Perfectly Obvious. I sincerely hope that I am not the only one who arrived shaken, or this Poor Fellow seriously should find himself a better job - perhaps shoveling Rotting Bodoc Dung. Still, he did have a [d]seda[/d] calming effect on me.

The Camp, in itself, mostly consists of Clusters Of Simple Tents that have long ago been abandoned by their Original Owners and appear to be arbitrarily Requisitioned by Arriving Refugees (some of which are more Possessive than others.) Each tent has developed its own Singular Scent over time, which is Very Practical when trying to find your way after a Particularly Successful Night.
Strewn among the tents are Ramshackle Vendor Shacks in which Overworked and Frighteningly Wooden volunteers struggle Day And Night to redistribute the Various Bric-A-Brac we refugees bring in, as well as offering training and guidance. (More about The Latter, later.)

This brings me to the Topic Of The Other Refugees. As I have mentioned, I have made Many Friends, though the circumstances of our acquaintance are not so much a Basic Commonality as the fact that most of the Other People here are Curiously Reclusive and many speak in Strange Monosyllabic Utterings. I can only assume that most who come here are so Deeply Distraught that they have lost all connection to the World Around Them. Nonetheless, it is Rotting Unnerving to walk among these people (especially during Aforementioned Successful Nights). Who knows how many of them are Rotting Goo-Suckers?

Naturally, arriving refugees are expected to Make Themselves Useful around the camp. There are even guides ensconced in Wooden Stalls doing their best to [d]kill[/d] keep us all occupied with [d]Rott[/d] Very Interesting And Straightforward Tasks such as finding dung and lobbing the head off the latest goo-sucker upstart. Their jobs seem to have made them Slightly Eccentric. The foraging guide seems to have an obsession for dead leaves and the Raving Fyros battle guide hates yubos With A Vengeance. Perhaps the Little Bastards relieved themselves in her Shiny Boots one too many times. I think they could all use taking part in a Successful Night. (Especially that Milles girl. She is Most Captivating!)

Some days after Arrival, I was on a forage with Wheri, one of the Trykers. We found To Our Astonishment that we are actually Cousins. His mother was my brother's sister! It's a Wonder to find something Close To Home even in such a Distant Land. My mood rose by Major Increments at this realisation. Wheri and I get along Like Strains Of The Same Weave and we're set on exploring Fairhaven (particularly its Taverns and Female Population) together.

Together, our Motley Band has braved Many Dangers, often led by the Plucky Perun or the Rigid Ract, and with exception of some of the [inkblot] Less Evenhanded people, we seem to Get Along Splendidly - to the point that we are planning to Meet Up on the Mainland and continue Working Toward A Common Goal.

Conversations with Wheri has brought back Memories Of My Past and eventually made me think of What Has Happened to me. During one of these Ruminations I suddenly, like struck by a Rotting Fence-Pole, remembered my Promise to Chelnaa. (Praise His Memory.) After a Most Hectic Hunt for something to serve as Parchment, and some Very Rotting Clever mixing of oils and saps by Wheri, I had the necessities. That was An Hour Ago. Finally I have finished the First Entry in this My New Journal. Chelnaa (P.H.M.) would be Proud!

Now, to see that Milles girl about a date. She can only turn me down So Many Times!

When we started the forums, we also talked about making a website with a presentation of the community and our aims, as well as whatever other resources we could come up with. At the time, we (the people discussing it) were rather agreed that such a thing was not necessary until we began to get outside interest in the community. Well, seeing the people starting to come in from Ryzom, I'm starting to think that it's getting to be time to re-evaluate.

I've been looking at CMS systems, but though I have some experience in web-design, I've never used one. I'm still pretty old-school and not really very enlightened when it comes to server-side scripting. I know some PHP and I'm considering learning Python. I'm intrigued by the thought of using this site as an instigation to learn Python, but I'm also thinking it would be better if there were several of us working on it.

I have some webspace I'm pretty sure I can use for trying it out, though probably not for actually publishing the site. If anyone has any ideas and/or want to help out, please give a shout. smile

I'd much prefer to stay out of PvP for two reasons.
One, it makes gameplay very unsafe and will undoubtedly break RP plots if it gets big.
Two, there is no way we could handle PvP with any kind of effectiveness as a group without a lot of OOC meta-talk, and that is bound to take the upper hand. If we don't do that, on the other hand, we're likely to get pounded very deeply into the ground

A fourth reason for an independent guild is the half-formed plans we have of settling around a specific area for role-playing. Quite a few of us are about as interested in the usual hack'n'slash as we are of clipping our toenails. (No quarrel with foot-fetishists out there - but for most of us it's rather tedious.) Creating an actual IG-physical community in a suitably-sized settlement would allow us to play out our characters without having to constantly worry about levels and grind. While this would still be theoretically possible within the Order guild, it makes more sense to do it separately.

As for the rest, the IC reason is quite enough for me. We all got to know each other in the camp and formed an idea. The guild is just a game-technical definition of that grouping.

Camolas wrote:

Im not too informed about NWN2. But I know its D&D and it sucks in pen&paper so why wouldnt it suck online?

Without wanting to insult you I would say that, yes, you are uninformed about NWN2. To begin with, it's not an MMOG. It's a CRPG with network play and the capacity to run persistent servers - essentially small MMOGs. Second, NWN and most likely NWN2 suck in themselves, when it comes to the game campaigns. That's not why they're interesting. What's interesting is the way they can be modified and added upon. Essentially, in NWN/2 we can/will be able to design our own game world. Not everything can be done in scripting, but a lot can be added, as the NWN community has proved beyond all doubt. If you wonder how much can be done, have a look at http://nwvault.ign.com/ but be warned. If you thought there were a lot of mods for The Sims, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

The setting will most likely have to be fantasy of some sort (unless we have some talented and arduous modellers in the gang who can make all-new tilesets) but it doesn't have to be standard Sword & Sourcery bullshit along the lines of what D&D usually represents. We could make our own world. It would take time though, and as I said before, it will be a while before there is enough custom content to design a really interesting game world.

Still, the possibilities are most definitely strong.

Just to add my blurted opinion again, I really don't like the idea of resurrection being an everyday matter. If that was the case, just like with telepathy commonplace, the culture would be very different. It doesn't make sense, and it screws up roleplay. I say to hell with it!

Definitely very interesting and helpful... as well as infuriating and confusing, as Nevrax seem to be pretty big on paradoxical backstory statements. *grumbles*

It's going to be interesting to see how our motley band relates to the larger RP community in SoR. wink
