[big]Mashed Sweet Potato[/big]

Ingredients:

- Sweet Potato (as much as you need/like)
- Hazelnuts (ground up/powdered)
- Almond shavings
- Some milk (just a bit, no more than half a cup, sweet potato is pretty mushy on its own)
- Some butter
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of pepper
- Pinch of cinnamon
- Pinch of nutmeg

Instructions:

Peel the sweet potato, cut it into big chunks, and boil it until it's soft, but not falling apart (stick a fork in it to test).
Preheat the oven to about 200 degrees Celcius.
Put the potato chunks into a bowl that can also go into the oven. Put in the milk, butter, pepper, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon too. Mash that all up.
Ground up the hazelnuts until they're powdery (or buy them that way). Mix that in with the mashed potato. Sprinkle almond shavings on top.
Put into the oven until the almond shavings are nicely browned.

I just ate this with ostrich steak and some beans for vegetables. It tasted very good.

[big]Sweetpotato from the Oven with Olive Tapenade[/big]

Ingredients:

-Olive Tapenade (see recipe/post above this one)
-Sweetpotato

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to about 225 degrees Celcius.
Peel the sweetpotatoes. Cut them into slices of about 1 cm thick. Make diagonal cuts on the slices (as on the picture) (so you end up with a lot of little squares on the slice).
Put the slices into or onto something fairly flat that can go into the oven, but that does have upturned corners so the olive oil doesn't drip off ont othe bottom of the oven.
Put royal amounts of tapenade onto the slices and then put them into the oven for about 30 minutes.

I just tasted it and I have to say, it was absolutely delicious tongue.

[big]Olive Tapenade[/big]

The way I make it, anyways. Many variations out there.

Ingredients:

-black olives
-green olives
(I use more of the black than the green. The Tapenade tastes strongly anyways, you don't need many green olives, that will be a bit too much of strong tastes mixed together. But, if you prefer...)
-1 piece garlic (fresh)
-capers
-parsley
-black ground pepper
-lemon juice
-olive oil

Instructions:

Chop up the olives, capers and garlic very finely (easiest if you have some kind of kitchen machine). Put it in a bowl and add the parsley and pepper, mix it all together very well.
add lemon juice and olive oil, mix again.
Voila.

Olive tapenade can be used for many things, in many recipes. Its most well-known use is probably as a party snack, on crackers.
It's also nice on toasted bread.
Tomorrow I'm going to try it in a sweetpotato oven dish.

[big]Oven Dish with Fennel Root.[/big] (for 2-4 people).

Ingredients:

•    Fennel roots (4-6 of them, depending on their size).
•    Whipping cream (that is not whipped yet tongue). About 500 ml. of it, less if you like.
•    1-2 eggs.
•    Grated cheese, about 400 grams.
•    Ham cubes or something like that (small pieces anyway, the shape is not all-important).
•    Black Pepper.
•    Nutmeg powder.
•    Curry powder.

Instructions:

Pre-heat the oven to about 200 degrees Celsius.
Cut up the fennel roots into smaller pieces that you could stick into your mouth and chew without needing any more knives during your meal tongue. Boil them for 5-10 minutes, let the excess water leak out.

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/7406/gesnedenvenkella2.th.jpg

Put the whipping cream in a bowl with the egg(s) and mix them together well. Mix in the grated cheese and the ham cubes as well.

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/6646/slagroommixby3.th.jpg

Now, put the cut-up fennel root together with the whipping cream mixture into a bowl that can go into the oven. Put in pepper, nutmeg, and curry (how much depends on your tastes). Mix it all up together.

http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/9327/voordeovenes3.th.jpg

Put the bowl in the oven and leave it in for about 45 minutes.

http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/738/nadeovenkm3.th.jpg

If, when you take it out, it’s all still too watery (the whipping cream stuff is supposed to mix with the cheese and get sort of semi-solid), put it back into the oven for a bit longer, until it’s right. If the top is threatening to become too dark, put a bit of tinfoil on top of it.
Or use less whipping cream next time big_smile.

(The new episodic format is working well for this game, I like it. Now we just need to make the story a bit more interactive, so you don't just watch it happen but participate more. I think the next episode will help with that a lot)

((May 19th to May 26th. Scars))
Odd things have been happening in the cavern. Earthquakes shook Ae'Gura, and a huge crack appeared in the wall of the already not very stable-looking pub, located at the little platform that divides the Great Stair into two parts.

The DRC immediately closed off the pub (of course) and issued a warning. However, a day later, Willow (Wheely) Engberg, the daughter of DRC-member Michael Engberg, and her friend Rosette went missing. Their KI signals could not be found. Wheely had informed her father that she and Rose were going to check out a crack that they found in the lower levels of the Library. This was later found out to be a lie. She had spun this story as a distraction so that she and her friend could sneak over the pub barriers and check out the crack there. After they finally got back the signal of Wheely's KI, it turned out that they had fallen through the crack, into a mysterious cave with glowing Bahro symbols on the walls.

Wheely reported that Rose was badly injured, possibly dead. She was said to have tried to touch one of the glowing symbols. The DRC quickly started a rescue operation, digging down and clearing rubble. Engberg spent time talking to his daughter whenever he could. She reported seeing glowing eyes in the small cave with her. From her descriptions, it looks like a Bahro was in the cave with her, watching her. It also made noises sometimes.

Wheely was getting very thirsty. Some people advised her to draw the Bahro symbol for 'water', hoping that they would bring her water to drink. Then they lost the signal of her KI again. When it came back, she reported feeling a lot better. The Bahro had apparently taken care of her.
Wheely reported that she could now hear the sound of the rescue operation digging, coming closer. For some reason, this seemed to upset the Bahro that was present. It began making agitated and loud noises, which Wheely said sounded like words. She thought it was screaming 'Noloben' at her. (Noloben is an Age that is briefly mentioned here and there, on Sharper's desk in the City for instance. The DRC apparently met a surviving D'ni there.)

By this time the DRC had almost reached her, and Michael Engberg was lowered down on a rope to go get her. At that moment, tragedy struck. Something happened, a bahro apparently got very aggressive and angry, and Michael was screaming for his daughter. The DRC hauled him up again immediately and lowered down a ResEng instead. This man reported that a creature had violently murdered Wheely Engberg. Whether it is the same Bahro that had been in the cave with her all this time and had brought her water, is not known, though it is generally assumed that it was a different Bahro, especially after another disturbing event took place.

Douglas Sharper had his own ideas about these happenings, and connected them to the violent deaths of the animals in the Pod Ages, most notably Negilahn. He linked back to the Pod world, and decided to track one of its animals to see if he could get a look at the predator, and confirm his suspicions. He found something alright. A creature attacked and beheaded the animal he had been following, and had taken the head. Sharper went after the trail. What he found was mind-blowing. Bahro had been responsible for the violent deaths of the animals. He walked right into the middle of what seems to be a Bahro war. Bahro came after him just as he was going to link to his Relto, and he thought he would go the same way as Wheely Engberg, but two other Bahro jumped in front of him and saved him from that fate. He linked out safely, though severely shaken, and immediately came to the Cavern to relay his findings.

Michael Engberg spent a long time grieving at the memorial site that was set up for Wheely and Rose. The gap in the pub was fileld in, and wreaths of flowers placed at the site by many people. After that, he disappeared. His signal was last seen in the Great Shaft, and everyone has been asked to keep a lookout for him.

Despite all this tragedy, and the apparent new threat to all explorers and possibly even all life, in the Cavern and the Ages, the DRC decided to go ahead with the release of the Age Minkata. They are also not abandoning the restoration. Their old safety first attitude, and overly cautious behaviour, seems to have transformed into a fighter's mentality. They will not abandon their project, nor have they asked any explorers to leave. They have issued warnings, and informed people of the risks, but a sense of community has grown that there never was before. Everyone is determined to get to the bottom of it all.

[big]My recipe for Tiramisu.[/big]

[death]The ingredients:[/death]

-100-125 ml. whipped cream (that is not yet whipped).
-4 yellows of eggs.
-3 egg whites (which means you're left with one unused egg white. I always bake it, but some people apparently just throw it away.)
-100-200 grams of sugar (I always use powdered sugar for this)
-500 grams mascarpone (which is a cheese from Italy)
-cocoa powder.
-boudoir cookies / sponge fingers. A lot of them. I always use the better part of 1 package which contains 200 grams of them.
-400 ml coffee (strong).
-1-2 tablespoons Amaretto (or some other liquor. You can use more if you like, but I use only a bit of it)

[death]Preparation:[/death]

Prepare 2 cups of strong coffee. Let them cool off (so that the liquor does not evaporate when you add it to the coffee.

Separate the yellows from the whites of the egg. Beat the 4 egg yellows together with the (powedered)sugar until you get a nice smooth cream. Beat the whipped cream through the egg yellow mixture. Then beat the mascarpone through the mixture (make sure it's nice and firm after you're done with this). Beat the 3 egg whites in a separate bowl (and for the n00bs: make sure the things you beat the egg whites with are clean and fat-free, and the bowl too, or it won't firm up) until they keep their shape and can stick up in nice peaks while you beat them. Mix the egg whites through the mascarpone mixture (not with an electrical mixer, etc. Use a big, flat-ish spoon if you have one, otherwise a regular spoon).

Get a nice round bowl that is not shallow to put the tiramisu in. Now add the amaretto (or other liquor) to the coffee. Put it in a shallow bowl or plate. Dip the boudoir cookies/sponge fingers into the coffee (don't let them get too soggy and fall apart), then put them into the round bowl.
Fill up the bottom of the round bowl with a layer of sponge fingers, then put a layer of mascarpone mixture on top of that. Then put in another layer of sponge fingers. Then another one of mascarpone mix. Etc etc. You can make as many layers as you like, but: make sure to start with a layer of sponge fingers, and to end with a layer of mascarpone mix. So make sure you keep enough mascarpone mixture for a last layer on the top.
I always just make 4 layers (2 of sponge fingers, and 2 of the mixture).

Put the Tiramisu into the refrigerator for at least 8 hours. It's easiest to make it in the evening and leave it in the refrigerator overnight, it's then done the next day.

Right before serving it, sprinkle a layer of cocoa powder on top of the tiramisu, using a small sieve.

Later on I will post a picture of the end result.
