I write this because I'm player who doesn't take part of PvP at all.

So, I'm asking how big part PvP will have with this RP community?

Examples: Dueling, Outposts, PvP areas, Primeroots, Events in PvP areas.

I also add, that PvP is out of question for me too. Every discussion seem to get hijacked wink

URU live's pictures look same as they are in the single player URU.

tried Second life for a little while too, saw it was on your list here, but I have to say that that was by far the worst MMO I've ever played. Had nothing but bad experiences...

Hehe, same happen to me. Worst what I have tried so far.

Heh, so yeah, I did disagree, but you did say that it was allowed

Different opinions are allways welcome.  wink

Games where player can actually affect the game are very rare.

I think I have seen only a few so far. Seed, Ultima Online and Horizons, maybe SoR too are those games what I have seen. Ultima Online has happen permament change to world it self, done by player, so that different servers resulted different look inside the game, by how players did act in event situation. Horizons players worked togather as community for common goals. So they builded towns and opened new areas and races to play. Pushed enemies out of they lands and so on. Basicly I'm talking situation where players leave they mark in the game world it self.

Of cause it's all connected how many players are in the game.  With 50 player there is possibility controll the situations more personal ways, but with 50000 player the situation is little harder. Because many events can't anymore be so personal that they where in Seed. They are more planed events and what ever players do, can lead different results. But the results are planed by game development, not players.

Victoria would join the Great Caravan, when we are ready for it.

Teleports are all around of the lands. Usually there is two in every town, one karavan and one kami. Teleport tickets HAS to be buyed from the location where the teleport is located. When You teleport, what means using teleport ticket, You are teleported back to teleport location, where You buyed the teleport ticket. Also the ticket will be gone as been used, so You need to buy new one. One teleport ticket does cost like 12000.

Usually Treks = Great Caravans are made for new players to collect some teleport ticket, so that they have possibility travel easyer. This kind of around of world trek can last 3-6 hour. With roleplaying and looking around even more..

Add here if You have game what could be good for this roleplaying community.

Ultima Online - http://www.uo.com/

Age of Conan : http://www.ageofconan.com/

The Chronicles of Spellborn http://www.tcos.com/

Okey, seen now four suggestions.

ATITD?
NWN2?
Second Life?
URU live?
Ultima Online? (I did add this)

I also noticed some roleplaying been little "choosy" about the games. Example if we look back to Seed.

What did make Seed so that most roleplayers did like it?

1. Interesting setup of story.
2. Good roleplaying support from GM's and game developments.
3. Nice comic looks (not really important)
4. A lot of other roleplayers.

Quoting Oluf, as it shows it very well:

All i can say is that when i played the harvester tutorials i was bored... (well, except for the one time where i got a senior guide to roleplay a bit with me!)

What did make Seed hard for non roleplayers?

1. Almost notting to do, just three option: repair, produce, doctoring
2. Roleplayers did not talk to You, if You wheren't talking right.
3. Technical quality of game client below standards.
4. A lot of bugs and lags

If You look what I have choosen there, You may disagree, but the main point is that roleplayers doesn't really care the game functions. It's all about the people community it self. So looking game isn't really looking game, but ability have intresting story and place to talk.

The real question is how many like to stay in SoR and how many do not?

Maybe we should create list of the games what would be possible and everyone can say they opinion (vote) what they like?

Basicly this game can played without single fighting or magic skills. Not that I recomended, but it's possible.

Biggest problems is that not all digging spots are safe in higher levels. Skillfull harvester can learn to avoid enemies. At least up to level 200 it's easy, 200+ is not easy. Crafting without harvesting will be hard, because it would be slow playing. You need to sell the stuff first, so that You get enough money to buy new materials, if there is enough matrials to buy. Togather harvesting and crafting is very good playing style and can be fun too.

Every warrior should have little magic, so that they can resurect others. Magic skills can be use healing others or fighting, what ever player choose.

This is becoming more complicated, when people tries to find how we do the communication. Notting has changed after Seed, we just have more channels, that's all. We have all kind of players in our communuty, from hard core roleplayers to pure OOC players. We did have these same players and playing styles in Seed too.

SIMPLE QUESTION:

Is there anyone who wants to talk OOC in /around /tell /guild /team channels without using (( )) for ooc talking ?

I like to correct something. /region and /universe channels are NOT OOC channels. Every channel what exist here are what ever players make them to be.
In Tutorial area has a lot of OOC talking, because new players have so many technical questions. In main land people use to IC in /region too, but they don't say that OOC isn't alllowed or even comment when people OOC. I don't understand what's big fuss about this at all. In Seed people did OOC all the time (( like this )).

It's so simple, IC as much as possible. OOC only when it's needed and make it as private as possible, when needed. When we are in guild, we usually have rule, like say Hi to guild chat, when You come in the game. So others knows You are there. This allows even those who are in RP even to contact to him/her personaly and explain what's going.

I have my self already disable the /region and /universe channels. I did not disable them because OOC, but because don't see any use for them.

Ahnion wrote:

I don't think there's someone who's got several times 25 in anything though. The cap in the tutorial area is 50. smile

I usually play a lot, when I play and very active ways. Even in Seed I was allways wanting to do something. So those who know's me from Seed, know that I'm very active when doing something action like. I already have most fighting skills over 30's in SoR.

So I don't think it's possible to keep us all in same skill levels or at least it will be very hard.

Kryigerof wrote:

(mostly because of the level cap that's arisen between our group)

*smiles* Tutorial is limited to level 50 max. The game is limited to level 250.

As I have played this game before, I can tell there is no ways to avoid level problems in combat. If You are level 40 warrior and You gonna team up with level 140 players, You get 0 exp, because You are not gonna hit anyting at all. Basicly sayed level 40 player and level 140 player in same team would not find any enemy what would be fun for both. It's too hard or too easy for one. Only exception is healer. That was the reason why I sayed we can't avoid OOC talk in combat. It's too "important" to know what level skills ever player gonna use in same team. Of cause we could develop some more roleplaying way to handle the situation or other ways to know the levels.

In harvesting the problem isn't so bad, because lower level can dig too, but mostly it's better caretake the higher ones digging. Caretake means just taking care the digging spot while the harvester is digging. Both will get exp fine.

Crafting is soloing..

As for Second life.

Tested it and looked to me like paper doll game. I had some graphics problems, my avatar was full yellow. When I zoomed close enough it did get textures or far enough.
In Second Life You use real money to buy stuff?

SoR is like any other game there, it has it's good points and negative points. I agree that SoR is very heavy leveling game, what isn't good for RP. Problem is that so is 90% of other MMORPG's too.

Those people who thinks SoR isn't the game for us. I would ask them to say the name of the game what could have possibilities for us?

ATITD?
NWN2?

Haven't see any other suggestions yet.

Maybe it's easyer to see this all by defining what the game should have and what not.

I quest, I would also say what I have played as I started this all.

Ultima Online.
- I think this is still one of the best MMORPG's. Graphics is little old, but game play is great. It also have pretty good roleplaying possibilities and roleplaying communties. I was part of one roleplaying community about year.
- I did quit because wanted see other games and did not anymore finded it fun after 3 years of playing.

EverQuest
- I playd this game very short time, about month.  It did have roleplaying communities and so on.. but..
- Did quit because did not like it. It was too much leveling to my taste.

EverQuest II
- Played this short time too, about 3 month. Very modern game with good graphics and atmosphere. Only place where npc's really have voice too.
- Quit this because the character development was in rails. Very linear and no real choises.

Horizons
- Played this about year and it was nice game, but game is laggy and not so good quality. It does have good support for communities and roleplaing. I was in roleplaying community there.
- Quit, because got bored.

City of Heroes & City of Villains
- I play this game still sometimes, have played it about 2 years. It has support for roleplaying, but it's hard to roleplay there, because game is very action based.

EVE
- Can't say much , I was in beta testing and did not like the game. So never tryed it more..

Saga of Ryzom
- Have played this game about half year. It's very nice game. Very action based fighting, so hard to roleplay. It does have a lot of emotes. Very few roleplaying commuties, but there is some.
- Did quit it because many events where PvP related and I'm not PvP player.

Dungeons & Dragons online
- Played this game about 2 month. It's very nice game, but it have very little to do with D&D. Did like traps in dungeons. Has very little roleplaying support, but there are a lot of roleplayers.
- Did quit it because it's too much for powerplayers than roleplayers. (uber item collecting game)

Seed
- Played this game about 2 month. It's very nice game, but a lot of bug and lag. Very good GM support and a lot of roleplayers.
- Quit it because, game quality below what I wanted and notting to do. (Game ended it self week later).

ROSE online
- Played this the trial, 7 day. It's very nice game for kids. I mean young kids. Basicly just leveling game, but funny looking and very cute. Did not see any roleplayers.

Anarchy Online
- Played this very short time, about 5 days. Graphics was too old to my tase, so I did quit. Of cause it was free at the time and still is.

Never Winter Nights
- Played this about 6 months. I liked the game, but now it seem too old. Still very nice different kind of game, as players can create they own game modules. Had my own NWN server.

Basicly I have tested many games, but also only very short times. Now I'm waiting the NWN2. It could be very nice game for roleplayers.

It seems nice idea.

Of cause we need to go main land for it, but we should not rush it. I asume many of us are still "testing" the game in tutorial area?

Also traveling in land of Atys is no picnic. Basicly this means You can't travel at all from one races land to other races land, without having group of experience atys players escorting us. The enemies are "deadly" in many zones and they can't be easyly avoided. Usually it's better to contact some "older" players, who could make trek for it.

I could help contacting in main land for some older players and arrange the trek when it's needed. But we need to design when and how we gonna do it. Other ways we could lose contact, if we haven't allready done the "Friend lists"?

(( I have other older character in main land, who belongs guild of Nexus. ))

Okey, my opinion is, disable /region and /universe talking and allways IC other channels.

We need local normal talking and tells for private wispering.  Also we need some channel for instruction, like guild / teams.

Rules: Allways IC if possible. We do have to answer others if they talk to us, even if it's OOC. So we could use (( as doing it)).

Ignoring what's happening and talked around us, because others don't talk how "we" want is rude. That doesn't mean we can't make own rule how to behave, but I don't like the elitist idea ignore anyting what isn't "PURE" ways.

Biggest problem is that this game can't be played without OOC talking. Mostly the problems is causing the experiment, enemy level and skill used level battle system.

I have seen some RPers in other games do so that there is IC talk in different channels and OOC talk in some channels. I'm agaist it. Seen what happens.

Been resurected by respawn is alot more rare than been resurected in battle by team member. I don't know, but one thing is sure, characters "dies" in battle all the time. I mean, same character can "be dead" 30 times in hour. Even yesterday many of us "died" multible times.

How to handle it as RP?

Just ignore hole idea about dead, because it doesn't really exist in MMORPG games. We are just unconscious?

Bigger problem is talking while You are "unconscious"?

I allways write wrong stuff and wrong time, but I'm gonna open this discussion anyway.

After playing a few MMORPG's I have found that all games have roleplayers, but MMORPG's are very different about supporting roleplaying. I don't mean just the emotes or items in the game, but playing styles it self. Example if game is very active fighting and leveling, it seem to be bad for roleplaying. Mostly because You can't really roleplay when You need to stay a live in very heavy actions. People seem to roleplay better when game is slow in action part, but has a lot of different stuff to do.

So, I was wondering what MMORPG's people here have played and what's peoples opinion about how good some MMORPG's would be for roleplaying community?
