a quick count at the names mentioned in this thread now gives us +/-15 who can attend

Not including possible attendance from the Seed dev team... That might boost us closer to 30...

I really liked the little exchange between him and Ba´Caussey... being denied entry unless he packed his axe away, he just sort of messured the entire company of Silt Scultor guards, noticed (though not saying it aloud) that he could easily manage them all... and then he took a step back
Oh my... Thats stylish!

Dont count on me for Ryzom this wednesday... I need a small break. And after spending a great deal of time planning the event I need to catch up on some RL things. But Ill be there next week... or before... wink Off course if any kind of funeral is planned for Mercellus I would appreciate a hint...

Hey all - thanks so much for taking part in yesterdays RP event - now offically entitled "Heart of Amber". I had great fun... and slightly shaking hands at times

I dont think this is the last time Im gonna try and run an event, so any feedback you might have on yesterday will be much appreciated.

Was the plot too thin? Too thick? Was there too much downtime while I was changing characters? Did the chase in Pyr work out? Was it a good idea to have the compas disabled or was it just annoying? Was there enough to do for all players, or did anyone feel ignored by the GM? What did you like most? What did you like least? Stuff like that...

Unlike most other events I have witnessed and read about in Ryzom I think I was GMing this in a more tighly planned pen&paper style... did you feel too controlled? Was there a sense of freedom and initiative for you as a player, or did I ´kill´ it by laying down too tight a schedule? Did I cross any lines regarding you characters? I know I came close to directing Peruns thoughts too closely at a point...

Any ideas on involving other players? Great that Kyerna joined us spontaineously at the end... Any thing I could do better? Anything you could do better?

And most importantly off course... did you like it? Would you like to take part again?

---

Oh... and Im gonna post an offical "thank you" thread on the Ryzom official forums later today or tomorrow, to give Kudos to all who helped make this a very special evening indeed - including the players wink. Be sure to check it out, to see who worked behind the scenes to give you an evenings fun.

I also have a concrete suggestion for SoR, if people are willing and ready. How about we play SoR exclusively at least once a week, gathering an evening all of us to do stuff together? That would create stories and motivation to log in on other days too maybe. And it could once again, make bonds with other RP'ers. But we need some more organization for such things. We should have done this earlier really. Anyway, I'm up for it and would suggest wednesday evening, though that is only a suggestion of course. Who's in?

Wednesday evenings would suit me fine mostly. I have allowed myself the luxury to be playing a little more than I really have the time to... (anybody else ever tried that wink ) - A weekly evening would be great though. But I would really like to hear from ´the original crew´ if they have any interest in this.

I do think that if planned in advance we might be able to draw some of the remaining RPers in SoR to us - if people know that wednesday evening = great RP with the Seeds. Would take come preparation to set things up of course, but maybe take some turns in arranging things / setting things in motion?

"This will sound ridiculous no matter how I write it: I have a Tryker stuck in my head"

((ooc)) Yes... some odd things have happened... Mercellus has gone missing, where could he be? Well, honestly I dont know yet what will come of this...

... But I do know that this sunday (february 4th) at 8 pm (gmt) would be a dandy time for any Seed to log into Ryzom. Somethings gonna happen... What, remains to be seen :demon:

That being said, anyone wanting to help out with this mini-event are welcome to leave a notice in this thread. I would need someone to take on different roles than their main character for instance...

UPDATE 1:

A little more info for you... This is gonna be a RP centered event. Perhabs some investigation, perhabs some combat, but a need to RP to figure things out will be essential. And since Im gonna make preparations depending on who and how many will take part I would like all who think they are gonna be there to leave a note in this thread.

Also if the date and time is really misserable to a lot of people we can move the day... but I hope that can be evoided.

This is gonna be fun! How can you resist?

Watch this space - More info to come...

Exactly.

/bow none  will play the bow animation without showing any text
/bow makes a deep bow  will play the bow animation and display the custom text: "´charactername´ makes a deep bow"

If you dont mind digesting some academic language... in Danish... theres a great new book on Roleplay being published by Aarhus University Press. Well ok, not entirely new - its from june 2006 - but anyways...

Its an antology offering variuos different perspectives on RP, including an excellent article by Ulrik Lehrskov and Alex Uth - the latter being the former lead writer on SEED (in case you wasnt allready aware of that tongue).

I still have a lot of reading to do, but it sure looks promising. Next article will be about the "narrativity and interactive characteristics of computer games´ - I wonder if that includes mmorpgs...

Sorry to all you non-danish speakers out there - guess you have to learn the language or lobby your local publisher for a translation...

Theres an event planned for saturday if anybody is up for it btw:

And Im still enjoying the game on an irregular, but not that infrequent basis... But hey - I have vacation right now... my play time might decrease (or it ought to) when school starts in a week. As for grinding... I find myself surviving on the donations of others... since an evenings play most often end up being mostly RP

What I miss the most is the rest of our guildmembers... Perhabs we should start plan some events, meetings or hunts of our own to actually meet in the game at the same time? Or draw some of you back in perhabs... :demon:

Im seriously considering posting an IC "have you seen these two tryker cousins?" poster... wink

My first thought was actually to limit crafting out-of-workshop to items crafted from low-quality plans, thus restricting medium and high-quality crafting to the workshops. I do have the concern that this would restrict crafters too much (compared to now where there are no restrictions), and that it would result in a lot of opposition from other players who are less concerned with consistency than you and I wink

Before posting this article on the ryzom.com forums I would really appreciated some feedback... just to weed out the worst errors/misunderstandings etc.

Thanks! wink

-----------------------------------

Some thoughts on crafting in teams

Historically here on Earth crafts as woodcarving, weaving, jewelry making, armouring etc. has been skills passed on from master to apprentice. The apprentice learning from the guidance of a master with many years of experience, the master benefitting from having a skilled assistant to help in his own creations.

For the homins of Atys crafting is a tough individual struggle – every single crafter having to learn the skills of his trade without ever benefitting from working with a more experienced colleague or master. In this regard the crafting skill in Ryzom stands alone compared to the skills of fighting, magic and foraging, since these skills allow players to work together in teams.

Through teamwork players will typically find that they gain experience faster compaired to going solo. This is especially true for the least experienced players in a group, who will benefit greatly from the increased XP-haul their more experienced teammates are able to produce. Thus teamwork is a great way for the experienced to help new players gain a foothold in the game. In addition teamwork is one of the things that make for an interesting gameexperience as well as great opportunities for socializing and RP if you are so inclined.

Only the crafters have to go it alone...

Workshops as the places for teamwork

What we need in the game is an option for the crafters to allow them to cooperate. I see no need to modify the crafting skill as such, nor is there any reason to hinder the crafters out there who would still prefer to work on their own.

My suggestion would be to introduce workshops to the game. These should be located in the cities (the forge in Pyr being one obvious candidate), since being a home to craftmen is what cities are all about.

By entering a workshop two players should be allowed to perform crafting actions together. One would act as master, choosing the actual crafting action, spending materials and gaining the finished product as usual. The other player would act as the assistant, his skill in the relevant craft providing a bonus to the succesrate of the master. Both would share XP for the action, just like a forager and careplanner.

Obviously if a master of skill level 250 and an apprentice of skill level 50 are crafting together, the master should gain a larger bonus to his succesrate by making q100 items, than if he choose to make q250 items. The later being too complicated for the assistant for him to be of much help in the process.

Other possible benefits of workshops

- Adjusting item stats:
Entering a workshop (and thus having acces to specialied tools, a workbench, heating sources, proper lighting etc.) should provide any crafter (not only teams) with some bonuses, compared to crafting in a dark, damp and dangerous corner of the prime roots for instance.

As it is now, the stats of an item (durability, lightness etc.) is determined solely by the raw materials it is made from.

My suggestions would be to allow crafters working in a workshop to affect these item stats in a limited way, for instance by sacrificing some durability for increased lightness, sacrificing some cold protection for fire protection etc. This would make an option for a more varied and interesting crafting gameplay, without forcing any crafters to seek up a workshop.

- Creating another dapper zink
The use of workshops could require a fee in dappers, the amount depending on the attempted quality of the item being crafted. Since workshops might be particular popular for high-end crafters trying to counter too many item degrades by working in pairs, a healthy dapper fee for high-end items might help drain some of those superfluous dappers out of the economy.

- Wokshops as social meeting places
As it is now, byers and sellers of items make posts on the forums when searching for a deal. By having workshops you now have an ingame location where one could count on many crafters of varying levels to hang out (read: grind). A buyer looking for a special item could then go to the workshop and ask there for a potential seller.

In addition crafters of different levels would have a location to search each other out for helping each other in the crafting actions. Masters could apply for apprentices, friendships could be formed, rivalries between masters cried out to the public... All sorts of great opportunities for socializing and RP would be found.

Claimed? *grumpf* He WAS an old seed! And Im pretty sure I could have convinced the GMs to support the claim if necessary.

After all they accepted that ChaiRho was an old seed - an old medicine student of Kayte in fact

Off course it all started with me blatantly telling everybody who cared that ChaiRho was an old student of Kayte... then I suddenly received this tell:

Ah how I miss such interaction with the GMs...

And back on topic then:
Reading Neshors Interview Analysis was really great. Being a late arrival to SEED and a generally lousy intrigue player meant that most of the plotting went WAY over my head... Its nice to finally see just how much bad blood where running

Sure. I played ChaiRho - the medic. Had some trouble settling into that character - it was my first mmorpg experience after all. Also he was very serious, and allready there where so many serious people around the tower and so much great scale planning... In the end I thought that some contrast to all of this would be in order and introduced the friendly but loony old repair guy Mozungo  Playing him was great fun! I remember arriving fresh from floatbed to pop right into Mehken and Arash (who else ). There was something about Mehken trying to collect a blood sample or something... wink

I was a member of Evolution  At least with my first character. I think another OOC reason for the focus to change on countering TM was the sad fact, that no kind of genetic tampering or research where being introduced into the gameplay... honestly there was little else to do wink
